Ryobi service center ******** customers
I bought a Ryobi Chainsaw from a hardware store in Pretoria(/2021). Used it for cutting a few branches and it stopped working. It did not use a full tank of petrol before it stopped working. On investigation into why it was not starting I discovered it did not have spark. Returned it to the hardware store who sent it to Ryobi for investigation. On 23/05/2022 I received a call from the hardware store with the price of R9xx for the repair, When asked what the amount is for I was told that they need to replace the piston rings among a few other things. When I queried why this need to be replaced I was given the number of Ryobi to call and enquire. the gentlemen I spoke to then explained that I must have used the wrong mixture of two stroke oil and kept insisting the I give him the ratio I used, even after explaining the I used the ratio suggested in the user manual, measured with the petrol mixing can they provided. When I asked if the chainsaw had spark when it arrived at there workshop the gentlemen got even more defensive and could not answer my question and kept talking in circles. If the chainsaw had a piston ring problem the compression on the engine would be low and would have had a audible indication. This would not have effected the Spark in any way. I declined the Quotation and requested that it be returned. After receiving it back it is clear that the chainsaw was not worked on at all, no indication that a bolt has been loosened and the dust has not even been removed from the areas that would have required them to determine such a prognosis. It is quite obvious that Ryobi SA is just giving a generic response and ******** customers into paying for something that is not needed.
