Abusing the elderly

We arrived at Stansted airport at 2.30pm this afternoon and went to counter 69 to check in my father's luggage. We had been delayed due to traffic in central London and were trying to get my dad settled and booked in time.

The person at the desk told us to go to desk 71 and we did so, despite their being quite a long queue. We saw that it was getting quite late for my dad to get his bag checked in and to go through security so he went to speak to the lady up front. He was shouted at and really treated badly. A man (with red hair, we didn't get his name), was so disrespectful and told my father that he had been calling for people on this flight to Lisbon to check in at counter 69 (where he had gone initially).

He did not make this announcement at all. There were 5 of us listening out for it and none of us heard it. He told my father that it was "too bad" because he had already announced the flight and that there was nothing more he could (would) do to help us. This was at 3pm, the flight left at 3.30pm. My father is 67 years old and this man shouted at him and really treated us appallingly.

We told him that we did initially go to counter 69, but were turned away. He did not do anything to help us and **** to us in telling us that he had made the announcement. The person who was initially at counter 69 (at 2.30pm today) also **** to us to say that we couldn't check in at this counter.

I use Ryanair all the time, I excuse the delayed flights and the rude attitude of the staff, but this is too much. We had to scramble to get my father onto a late night flight out of London, as he needed to be in Lisbon tomorrow. We paid an extra 318 pounds for an alternate flight from Heathrow.

I can't believe that people can be so *********** and then rude to an elderly man who did nothing wrong and was given the incorrect information at the airport by the actual Ryanair staff. Surely they should be aware of where people should go and certainly not contradict themselves this way. A mistake is one thing, but to treat someone like they did and be so dismissive and unwilling to help when there was still 30 minutes left for my dad to board the flight is INEXCUSABLE.

I look forward to hearing from you on your explanation of the Ryanair staff behaviour and what you propose to do to rectify this situation.
