Rondebosch Medical Centre -Worst Hospital on the Planet

To give Rondebosch MC a zero rating would be generous. If you are considering becoming a private (non-Medical Aid) patient of this hospital, please pay close attention. My sister took our 77 year old Mother, whose body is wracked by bone cancer to this hospital after she had a fall. Because she does not belong to a Medical Aid, we had to pay a R40k deposit into the hospital’s bank account before they would admit her, which we had no hesitation in doing because of the urgency of the matter. We discharged our Mom on the same day due to the putrid service she received - when we visited her at 3, we found her in a soiled diaper and no Dr had been to see her prior to our arrival, to name bùt a few of our concerns. To add injury to insult, we needed to send two e-mails requesting the invoice and to find out what the outstanding balance was. We were informed via e-mail that “The refund will take 7-14 working days to be paid out.” Now the last time I checked, this was a hospital NOT a bank and I can see no reason why the hospital needs to hold onto our refund of over R37k for this period of time. They expect their deposit immediately, but for some reason the rules don’t apply to them when it comes to refunds. I sincerely hope that this refund will include interest which I would have earned if the money was held in a banking account. They have also not responded to my request via e-mail to ascertain why we have to wait for the refund. We are taking care of a frail cancer patient, who needs very expensive medication and other sundries to ease her pain. But I guess this is not a concern of this hospital who claims to be "committed to being a world class facility that provides EXCELLENT medical care and a CARING and COMPASSIONATE environment for our patients."
