Our experience at Robben Island was deeply disappointing and upsetting. My mother is a paraplegic and uses a wheelchair, yet despite this being communicated, everyone else was taken first and we were left waiting with no proper explanation or consideration. When they finally assisted us, instead of providing a suitable and safe vehicle, they used a higher vehicle that was clearly not appropriate for a wheelchair user. This resulted in my mother injuring her legs, which is completely unacceptable and could have been avoided with proper planning and basic disability awareness. For a site of such historical importance, the lack of accessibility, poor organisation, and disregard for disabled visitors is shocking. Wheelchair users and their families should not be treated as an afterthought or placed in unsafe situations. I would not recommend Robben Island to anyone travelling with a wheelchair user until serious improvements are mad in staff training, accessibility, and disa sensitive transport.

So we booked tickets online, the day when we were supposed to go on the island they cancelled all the trips for that day and they said a refund was processed however it’s been 7 working days yet the funds are still not reflecting. The ladies that answer the phone are rude and don’t have telephone etiquette, and some of the ladies that work there are very rude. So disappointed in this organisation. We just want our refund
