Nurturing long-term growth
We chose Riverside College for our child and we feel that we definitely made the right decision. Management, the principal, the teachers and staff have all been welcoming since the very beginning and knowing that Riverside College have had a great matric pass rate is amazing. Riverside offers small classes so that the teachers can give the children the attention that they require and many go above and beyond what is expected as they truly care about the children and want to see them succeed. Perks like extra classes are also offered as well as sports to those who are interested in participating. Management, the principal, teachers and staff have created a safe homely environment where parents have peace of mind that their children are well cared for. There is lots on offer like the tuck-shop that not only sells snacks but also healthy meals and transport services to and from the school. There’s always lots happening at Riverside with markets, colour runs and the carnival with rides to provide entertainment for the Riverside school community. The children go on school outings and are accompanied by management, the principal and staff on their annual school camp where the safe homely environment is maintained and they even prepare home cooked meals for the children while fun is had by all. Communication is continuous via WhatsApp, letters and the Riverside College App which was exclusively designed to keep students and parents informed at all times. Queries are dealt with immediately and handled with care. If you are looking for a school that ticks all the boxes, then do yourself a favour and make a booking for the next open day because you won’t regret it.

Unfair Suspension and Withheld Term 1 Report at Riverside College
I am sharing my experience as a 2026 matric learner at Riverside College to highlight how an unproven accusation severely disrupted my education and forced me to restart my matric year. On 17 March 2026, I was questioned by staff regarding an alleged cellphone violation. I denied the allegation and consented to a full search of my person and bags. No cellphone was found. Despite the lack of physical evidence, I was subsequently suspended during my matric year for allegedly having a phone and for being “disrespectful” while defending myself. During the disciplinary process, I experienced interactions with management, including school owner Elana Edwards, that I found deeply unprofessional, hostile, and intimidating—particularly when personal comments were made regarding my family. Following these events, a previous public review I posted regarding my experience was removed by my father after he experienced significant legal pressure and threats of financial penalties from school management. Now that I am 18, I am reposting my direct experience. The impact of these actions on my education has been severe: Disrupted Final Year: Being suspended during matric exams put my academic future at immediate risk based on an unproven accusation. Withheld Academic Records: Despite school fees being paid, the school refused to provide my Term 1 report card following my exit/expulsion. Inability to Transfer: Without my official Term 1 report card, I was unable to enroll at another institution for Term 2. As a direct result of being unable to transfer, I have been forced to redo my entire matric year. While private institutions operate under contractual agreements, learners deserve fair administrative processes, objective evidence before disciplinary measures are enforced, and access to their official academic records so their right to education is not compromised. I am sharing this factual account of my experience so other families and learners are fully aware of how disciplinary matters and record releases are handled at this institution.

An Exceptional School
As a parent of children at Riverside College, I can honestly say that choosing this school has been one of the best decisions we’ve made. What stands out most is that Riverside College isn’t just focused on academics. My children are excited to go to school each day, they feel safe, supported and valued, and that speaks volumes about the environment the school has created. The teachers and staff consistently go above and beyond. They are approachable, compassionate and always willing to help, whether it’s with academics, emotional support or simply taking the time to listen. It never feels like you’re “just another parent.” One of the things I appreciate most is the accessibility of the leadership. Knowing that I can walk into the principal’s office, have an open conversation about any concern, and know that it will be taken seriously gives me enormous confidence in the school. That level of communication and partnership with parents is something that is becoming increasingly rare. Academically, the standard of education is outstanding. Since joining Riverside College, my children have flourished. Their confidence has grown, their results have improved significantly, and they are developing into well-rounded young people who genuinely enjoy learning. School Policies That Undermine Equality, Dignity, and Wellbeing
As a concerned parent, I am extremely troubled by this school’s discriminatory practices. Students of colour with natural, thicker hair have reportedly been told their afros are “too big,” “too exotic,” or that hair growing upward may not exceed 5cm. These rules disproportionately target Black learners and amount to racial **************. This conduct violates Section 9 (Equality) and Section 10 (Human Dignity) of the Constitution of South Africa, as well as Department of Basic Education guidelines, which require schools to respect learners’ cultural identity and prohibit policies that unfairly disadvantage students based on race or culture. Natural hairstyles are protected, and framing racialised rules as “uniform standards” is unacceptable. Additionally, break times are unreasonably short, providing insufficient rest for learners and teachers alike. This negatively affects wellbeing, concentration, and performance, contributing to fatigue and burnout. I urge the school to urgently review its hair policy and daily schedule to align with constitutional obligations and Department of Education standards. Until these issues are properly addressed, I cannot recommend this institution.
