Refusal to pay deposit back
I booked the venue in April 2014 @ a deposit fee of R5000 for 12/09/2014. On the 18/06/2014 I moved the reception date to November 2014 with the agreement that should there be any other interest in the date, Riverside would phone me and then we would confirm whether or not I would book the date or if Riverside could 'sell' that date. On the 14/09/2014 the coordinator and I spoke telephonically in which I postponed indefinitely, followed by email confirmation the 15/09/2014 that we'll speak again in 2015.
The reasons for the initial moving of the dates was because I am finishing a MSc degree (full-time) and working full-time, so there really was not time or finances to get married. Since then, our plans have changed and marriage is not on the cards anymore.
Now Riverside will not pay back my deposit, despite the fact that we never signed the Term and Conditions contract, nor despite the fact that they never lost business on my account.
They had every and ample opportunity 're-sell' my dates because of cancelling months in advance, their lack of advertising and plainly, lack of customer interest is not my fault.
In fact, I referred 2 weddings 2 them, that brought good business.
