Richfield Graduate Institute’s refusal to refund my registration fees after cancellation of my enrolment.

On 9 January 2026, I submitted a formal request for de‑registration and cancellation (Student Number ***). On 12 January 2026, your office confirmed that my request fell within the 21‑business‑day cooling‑off period and instructed me to complete the cancellation form and provide a formal letter. I comp**** with these requirements and received written acknowledgement on 14 January 2026 that my request had been received and forwarded for approval and processing.

Despite this, Richfield has refused to refund my registration fees. This refusal is ******** under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), which entitles consumers to cancel within the cooling‑off period and receive a refund, subject only to reasonable cancellation charges.

I have written proof of their assurances via email and WhatsApp communications with Richfield graduate institute academic advisor , yet they continue to refuse refund me and mislead. This has caused financial loss and unnecessary frustration.

Despite these written promises, they are now refusing to refund me. This is rotten, dishonest behavior — misleading students with false assurances and then breaking their word. I comp**** with every requirement, submitted all documents, and have proof of their promises. Their refusal to honor a legitimate refund is unacceptable and shows a complete lack of integrity.

People should learn that Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology misleads students with bad faith refund practises, refuses to honor legitimate refund commitments, and behaves dishonestly. Richfield’s refund process is unreliable, dishonest, and unsafe for students.

I acknowledge receipt of your response dated 6 March 2026 regarding my deregistration and refund request, thank you for your responses but I remain dissatisfied with your outcome and I wish to escalate further.

On 6 March 2026, your office contacted me telephonically regarding my deregistration and refund request. I appreciate the call, but I must make it clear: what I hear are excuses designed to justify withholding my refund.

I paid R400 (application fee, 21 December 2025) and R1,600 (registration fee, 22 December 2025) to Richfield Education’s Standard Bank account. These payments were for application and registration, not for any “deregistration fee.” Your own office confirmed on 12 January 2026 that my cancellation fell within the 21‑business‑day cooling‑off period under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA). I comp**** fully with all requirements, submitted the cancellation form and letter, and received written acknowledgement.

Despite this, Richfield now claims that my registration fee was “allocated” as a deregistration fee. This is ********. Section 16 of the CPA entitles consumers to cancel within the cooling‑off period and receive a refund, subject only to reasonable cancellation charges. Charging the entire registration fee as a cancellation fee is punitive, unreasonable, and dishonest.

I therefore wish to make a formal complaint against Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology for misleading conduct, breach of the CPA, and refusal to honor legitimate refund commitments. I will escalate this matter to the National Consumer Commission (NCC), the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), and the Council on Higher Education (CHE).

Richfield’s refund process is unreliable, dishonest, and unsafe for students. I comp**** with every requirement, I have written proof of your assurances, and I will not accept excuses in place of lawful compliance.

I previously posted a review about Richfield’s refusal to refund my R1,600 registration fee despite written confirmation that my cancellation fell within the 21‑business‑day cooling‑off period under Section 16 of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA).

Richfield responded publicly to my review, but when I followed their instruction and raised a complaint to the email address they provided, I received no response at all. This shows that their public replies are for appearances only — they do not follow through with corrective action or engage meaningfully with complaints.

Their continued silence, despite clear proof and escalation, demonstrates:
- Breach of the CPA by refusing a valid refund.
- Misleading conduct by acknowledging issues publicly but ignoring them privately.
- Lack of accountability and integrity in handling student finances.

I have escalated this matter to the National Consumer Commission (NCC), the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO), and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

Prospective students should be aware: Richfield may respond to reviews to appear cooperative, but in reality they ignore complaints and fail to honor consumer rights

Good evening Sharen,

Thank you for your guidance so far. I have attempted to contact the Managing Director using both the email address and WhatsApp number you provided, but unfortunately I have not received any response. These channels appear to be informal and have not resulted in any meaningful engagement.

I therefore wish to log a formal complaint through Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology’s proper channels. Could you please advise the official process for lodging a formal complaint within the institution, so that my matter can be addressed appropriately and transparently?

Kind regards,

Mpho
