Richfield Graduate Institute – Third Complaint, Still No Refund

This is now my third formal complaint against Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology. Despite their public reply to my previous Google review promising to “work towards a resolution,” no action has been taken and no communication has been received.

Timeline Recap: - 22 Dec 2025: Paid R1,600 registration fee. - 09 Jan 2026: Submitted cancellation request. - 12 Jan 2026: Richfield confirmed cancellation was within the 21‑day cooling‑off period. - 14 Jan 2026: Richfield acknowledged receipt and processing. - 06 Mar 2026: Submitted refund application form with all required documents. - April 2026: Still no refund, no written response, no accountability.

Issue: Richfield’s repeated silence, despite public assurances, demonstrates disregard for consumer rights and regulatory compliance. Section 16 of the Consumer Protection Act is clear: consumers are entitled to cancel within the cooling‑off period and receive a refund, subject only to reasonable charges. Richfield’s failure to comply amounts to: - Breach of the CPA. - Misrepresentation of cancellation fees. - Failure to act on both direct and public complaints.

Relief Sought: - Immediate refund of R1,600. - Written confirmation of compliance. - Accountability for ignoring repeated escalations.

Richfield’s continued failure to resolve this matter leaves me with no choice but to escalate further with the National Consumer Commission (NCC), the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), and the Council on Higher Education (CHE).

Dear Mpho,
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention and for outlining the timeline of your interactions with the institution.
We appreciate that this matter has been frustrating for you, particularly in light of the delay in receiving formal feedback, and we apologise for the lack of communication on our part.
Following a further review with our Finance Department, we confirm that your request was assessed in line with the institution’s terms and conditions. Based on this review, you do not qualify for a refund, as the applicable de-registration administrative fee has been app**** in accordance with the accepted registration terms and conditions. As a result, no refund will be processed.
This outcome was confirmed by our Finance team in their communication dated 4 February 2026.
We understand that this may not be the outcome you were hoping for. However, please be assured that the matter was carefully reviewed against the relevant policy provisions before the decision was made.
We regret the delay in communicating this outcome to you and acknowledge that this should have been conveyed sooner. We are reviewing the communication process around cancellations and refunds to ensure that students receive timely and clear feedback in future.
Should you wish to receive a copy of the relevant terms and conditions or require further clarification on how the de-registration administrative fee was app****, please contact us directly and we will gladly assist.
Kind regards,
Richfield:  A Learning Experience of a Lifetime.
Your Future.

Reviewer Update
Dear Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology,

I acknowledge receipt of your recent response regarding my refund request. However, I remain dissatisfied with the outcome and wish to formally log this matter as an official complaint.

Please note the following:
- I have written confirmation from your student advisor that a refund would be processed.
- I completed and submitted the official refund form with all required documentation.
- Your latest response contradicts earlier assurances and fails to address the commitments made in writing.
- Your advisor explained that I was in the cooling off period and I will be receiving a refund of R1600.

Given the timeline of events and the clear provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, I believe this matter has not been handled in accordance with regulatory requirements or your own communication standards.

I therefore request:
- Immediate escalation of this matter as formal complaint and not an informal escalation to senior management.
- Please note I wish to log a formal complaint , please do not provide me with senior management email addresses and WhatsApp contact numbers
- A clear timeline of the official complaint resolution timescales and my escalation rights should I not be satisfied with your response or outcome.

Should this complaint not be resolved satisfactorily, I will proceed with escalation to the National Consumer Commission, the Department of Higher Education and Training, and the Council on Higher Education.

Kind regards,

Mpho Davy Mokoena
