Refusal to Deregister Student

I have recently become employed in another country and am no longer able to study and require to deregister since the assignment and examination period falls into a time when I will be emigrating.

Richfield have refused to deregister me and ****** the full amount of the tuition since it is online distance learning. They clearly do not understand the implications of emigrating and leaving the country or the administration and stress required for such a move as well as starting a new position in an unfami**** country with my family.

This is the email I sent: Good Day ******

I trust you are well

Student No. : *********X ID No. : ************

I have recently become employed in Dubai and will be relocating to the UAE with my family in the coming months.

I will no longer be able to study due to the time constraints imposed by my new position.

As a result of this I have chosen to not further my studies with Richfield as initially planned for this year, since I will be emigrating in the next few months.

Please could you provide me with all the necessary documentation required to cancel my modules for the year and deregister from Richfield.

Thank you for your assistance __________________________________________

This was the response I received from the administrator:

Good morning

I am well thank you

Kindly note there is no need for you to de-reg as your entire studies are online. The exams and assignments are done on Moodle and will be able to access Teams and Moodle anywhere. Irrespective of the place to move to, you cannot de-reg as the cooling off period is over according to the contract, you will still be liable for the fees.

Kind regards

My response to this:

Hi ******XX

Thank you for your mail.

Please can you send me a copy of this contract.

I refuse to believe that an individual is unable to deregister from an institution of learning when I am physically not able to study whilst preparing to relocate my entire family to another country.

If Richfield are refusing to deregister me in order to keep my deposit then it is paramount to theft.

I am stating that I am physically unable to study, be it online or otherwise, in order to meet assignment due dates or exam dates when I have to emigrate and prepare for another job.

I am requesting a deregistration as I am UNABLE to complete this course with the demands of my new job AND emigrating.

Please advise at your earliest convenience

Thank you for your generic response.

The urgency that this matter deserves has become apparent by your failure to contact me or resolve the issue within the 24hr time frame you have specified.

Who can I contact to resolve this matter because the administrators don't seem to be interested in a deregistration.

If a student is unable to study due to extraordinary circumstances, why should they be held ransom to full fees after paying a deposit. Even when the distance learning semester has not started and no exams/assignments have been written and/or assessed.

I am yet to receive an email or phone call with Richfields "urgent" attention 48hrs after the initial response
