DISTANCE PROGRAM IS HORRENDUS, DON'T DO IT!!!

The distance learning experience has been extremely disappointing. There is almost no real teaching involved for distance students. Instead of regular, structured lessons, we’re given a single “workshop” per module—often just once a month, where the lecturer rushes through as much content as possible in one session.

When we raise concerns, we’re told it’s a “self-study” program, which is reasonable for working students if proper resources were provided. But how are we expected to teach ourselves complex subjects like mathematics without any guided instruction? Learning advanced concepts without support is unrealistic and unfair.

Most of us are turning to YouTube for explanations because the university-provided videos are outdated, most recorded back in 2020. If lecturers don’t have time for live sessions, why not at least record the on-campus classes and upload them to YouTube which is also convenient if storage is an issue? This would allow distance students to follow the actual course content at a normal pace rather than cramming everything into a single session.

We are not begging you to have online classes everyday. That is impossible and inconvenient for lecturers as they will have to teach online learners at 5 pm, which is when most online students have completed there work day. We are asking for the lecturers to record on campus classes and upload them to YouTube where any online student can watch tailored, structured, current classes at their own pace.

The best way I can describe this experience is imagine your a person from a foreign country, paying to learn the English language without being taught the alphabet first.....pointless.

There’s a clear lack of support, and it feels like we’re being left to fend for ourselves. For the fees we’re paying, of which some of us are killing ourselves to earn. We deserve better.
