MECHANIC or NOT - NOT!!

Dear Peter. I believe in one's life time there are two human entities that one has to trust. One being your doctor and the other one being your Mechanic. The latter has not only broken my trust but also emptied my bank account. I drive a Hyundai Atos by choice. It's extremely economical and priced to fit my pocket. Boy was I wrong! My car started over heating and from experience I knew, come hel or high water this needs to be sorted out. I contacted above mentioned company and trusted that the matter would be resolved. Boy was I wrong! I received a quotation from them and was informed that they would not start repairs until a deposit of R10 000 was paid into their bank account. The transfer was done and the work started. The head had to be re done, clutch overhauled, front wheel bearings done and the cooling system repaired. Two weeks later the vehicle was "REPAIRED". I could not take delivery of my vehicle until the balance was paid (understandably so). The balance was about R14 000. Total repair cost being plus minus R25000. I very big hole in the bank account. This is my only transport so I did not really have a choice but to have the repairs done. I took delivery of the vehicle and took a drive to Empangeni (I reside in Richards Bay). On the way back from Empangeni the car overheated again. I phoned the mechanic whilst along side the road. He informed me that he would come and see what the problem was as I was only 1KM away from his workshop. The car started again and he accompanied me to the workshop. He said he could not comprehend what the problem could be except the fact that the thermostat might have got stuck. I should keep an eye on it and revert back to him. Except for the overheating problem, I requested that the brake light switch be replaced as my brake lights were not working. The radiator was sent away for repairs. I was still not happy! My car had very little power. The mechanic sent his son in-law to come and have a look. He informed me that they were not able to tuneappropriately due to the fact thatthere appears to be an electrical short with the lights (brake lights still not working). I did not receive a courtesy call to find out if I was happy. At this stage I felt that something was wrong. I went to the spare shop and purchased a new brake light switch. My son took the old one out and replaced it (lights are working fine). The brake light switch appeared to not have been replaced, although I was charged for one (when this was queried, he said he would look into the matter and to date, I have not received feedback or a refund). My car has never been the same. This took place October last year. Three days ago my car failed to start. I replaced the starter motor and battery. Still she would not start. Took her to an auto electrical company only to find out that the head gasket (the same one that was replaced a couple of months ago) had gone. Now I need to have my cars head done again... is this normal practice? It cost me R25 000 and now I have to pay again. How many people are out of pocket with nothing to show for it? What is the way forward? Should this business be operational? Did he see me coming due to my ***uality? What a waste of hard "borrowed" money. Please help!!!!!!
