I am extremely dissatisfied with the conduct of Rianna Willemse Solms Attorneys regarding my levy account. My account was handed over to them after it fell into arrears during a period where I had no income. I have since resumed paying my monthly levies and am making an effort to reduce the outstanding balance. Despite this, the firm continues to send repeated letters and then charge me for each of these letters, while also adding ongoing interest to the arrears. This has the effect of increasing the debt instead of helping to resolve it. What is particularly concerning is that these charges appear excessive and unnecessary. In addition, there are amounts being added to my account that are not properly itemised or explained. As a result, I cannot determine what I am being charged for, which raises serious concerns about transparency. In terms of South African law, charges of this nature are required to be reasonable, necessary, and clearly disclosed. The current approach does not appear to meet that standard and places additional financial strain on someone who is actively trying to settle their account. Instead of working toward a fair and constructive resolution, the process feels punitive and escalatory. I would strongly caution others to carefully review all charges and communications when dealing with this firm, and to question any unexplained or excessive costs. Greater transparency, fairness, and ethical conduct are clearly needed in the handling of matters like this.
