Crossing the fear factor of resignation!
When considering retirement vs resignation you may feel that it is a 50/50% case, but it is because we are uninformed about resignation. I had 2 x sessions so far with Mr. Devhan Naicker, and what an eye opener it was! Compared to 3 other advisors that I also saw (just to compare apples with appels), we got the whole apple orchid, and then some more! He understands GEPF with both retirement and resignation options from the fund. I never knew that with resignation, *if structured correctly* (and especially with pre-1998 service) one can basically manage to pay 0% tax on your resignation lump sum. Will I have to tighten the belt a bit on the income side? Yes, but the same goes for the retirement option. However, the big difference is that if I should pass away, my wife gets everything in the investment (not just 50%), and if she passes on, the nominees will inherit whatever is in the investment. Please take note that resignation, if done correctly, is a process (set aside at least 6 months to prepare everything correctly with the right advisor to reap the most benefits and save hugely on tax). In the end it is a personal choice as each individual's circumstances will differ, but it is well worthwhile investigating the resignation option!
