Bad service after lost vehicle

In November 2017 I registered and listed my car with Rentmyride after researching the company and being provided with assurance that their customers are pre-screened and furthermore the company has insurance cover in the event the car gets damaged and or ******. My car was then rented out on the 17th/Nov to be returned 7 days later.

Closure to the return date we posted a message to the customer to make arrangements To collect the car. After no response I made contact with Rentmyride who also couldn’t reach the customer and was therefore advised to open a case of theft. Since Rentmyride was unwilling to trace the guy I requested his address and was horrified to learn that the address was false. A few days later the same customer called in claiming to have been hijacked. A case was then opened with the relevant authorities with little or no assistance from Rentmyride. Subsequently I was informed that a claim would be made with their insurer Renasa and the matter will be resolved within 2 weeks after the lodge.

In december I was requested to provide a settlement letter and other supporting documents. The same documents were again requested in January/2018. After numerous attempts and weekly follow ups from myself I was informed that Rentmyride responsibilities end when the claim has been submitted with the insurer and therefore there’s nothing further that they can do if the matter doesn’t receive priority or any urgency. I’ve requested proof of the claim and reference numbers but this denied by Rentmyride stating reasons of confidentiality with their insurer. To them the responsibility has ended. Needless to say it is now 3 months since I’ve been waiting.

The matter has been taken up with my lawyers whom I’ve given instruction to lodge a civil claim against the company.

Will keep you updated on the matter as it progresses but this is just to highlight the frunsteation and attitude by this company.

Good Afternoon Mr Seleke

Thank you for your review... Our response to your review can be found below.

RentMyRide has strictly adhered by our terms as shown on our website which was agreed to by yourself when registering, www.rentmyride.co.za is a platform administering a "connection" between Renters & Car Owners offering Owners a way to earn money from their cars in South Africa.

As part of our service we provide full comprehensive insurance cover under our policy during the rental period because simply put, accidents do happen and theft is a reality in any country.

That being said our affiliation to the insurer is just that of a policy holder and we can only request feedback after submission on a weekly basis and have provided same feedback to yourself on numerous occasions when there was a change in status throughout this process, this was done by email & telephonically (Proof provided to yourselves) and we as the policy holder can in no way dictate to the insurer how to conduct their operations and when to release payouts. Hence we are at the mercy of the insurer until they are satisfied as with any other licensed insurer.

As a result the last feedback provided to you was that the theft of your vehicle was put under investigation by our insurer and outsourced to a 3rd party investigation unit/Company. We will continue to provide you with feedback as we get it for as long as this claim is in process.

Should you feel that our response is not to your liking you are welcome to email us directly alternatively you can browse our terms and conditions found on our website footer www.rentmyride.co.za

Thanking You
