Rent a Cheapie - IS JUST NOT CHEAP!

Our experience with Rent a Cheapie is very bad. Their whole rental system is focussed on making money out of you after you have booked your car. Especially when you bring it back. We rented twice with them, and had the same bad experience both times. When we started speaking with people around us in Cape Town, it appeared that everyone had this same experience.

The most ridiculous part is that they offer an insurance for small damages, but it excludes the wheels and tires. Fair enough. But then when you bring back your car, they say: hey there is a small scratch on your wheel cover, we have to paint it again, we charge R350 per cover! And hey, your rim seems to be damaged as well, we need to replace it, we charge R1.399 for that rim! The insurance they offer is worth nothing, it just makes them money. Of course your wheel covers will have some damage, that is what wheel covers are for. When you bring back the car, the inspector is right away looking at the wheels thoroughly, they know they make the money there!

And you have to read all small letters in your contract, we didn't see that it was not allowed to drive out of a certain range out of Cape Town (I have never had a rental company that did that, they sometimes only limit to a certain country). It would have been nice if they tell you this "detail" when you collect the car. We rent a car in South Africa and OF COURSE want to see more than just Cape Town. Then they charged a fee or R799 for traveling out of Cape Town, and a REDICULOUS admin fee of R299 for not telling them that we were going to travel outside Cape Town.

Don't walk into this trap people, just go for a regular rental company, it will cost you less than booking with this ******** organization.
