MOVING COMPANY WANTS ME TO PAY EXTRA BECAUSE THEY DID NOT LOAD MY ENTIRE MOVE
I asked Renmoor for a quote to move my home contents from Stilfontein to Kestell. A representative from the company contacted me and I informed them of everything that had to be moved. After consulting with them I was given a quote of R8900. On 20 August they were meant to start loading at 8am in the morning. The truck arrived at 9:21. When the truk got there, I told the driver, as well as the representative of the truck that the truck is not going to be big enough to load everything. I was told by the driver that h believes it will be.
Before they started loading, the driver and his assistants starting filling the truck with fuel from plastic containers. This was worrying.
At a little past around 10:30, the driver asked me what he can leave behind. I informed him that nothing can be left behind as my tenants has to move in by the 22nd. He said he will try and put everything onto the truck. I immediately contacted the cmpany and expressed my concern.
The company then contacted the driver but did not revert back to me. The driver informed me that they spoke to him and he is going to try and load everything. Unfortunately I had to leave for Kestell as it is a 5 hour drive. At aroun 15:24 the company contacted me and informed me that the driver is about to leave and asked why I did not pay the balance before he left. I informed them that it had slipped my mind and that the driver did not remind me. At this time they also informed me that not everything had been loaded, I told them that the quote was for the whole move and not just a part. The representative wanted me to pull off the road, get my laptop from my boot and do the transfer of the remainder of the balance immeiately as the driver wants to put diesel into the truck. I informed them that I cannot do this with three dogs and an African Grey in the car and will do it as soon as I am in Kestell. At this time, the representative told me that they will return for the balance of my move if I agree to pay the driver "a bit extra". I told them I was not willing, but as it is a long trip and this has to be done, I will give him R500. I also told them that delivering my move after 10 at night is going to cause problems (as it is COVID and there is a curfew). The Representative then had the "owner" phone me and I informed her the same as above.
Once in Kestell I paid the balance immediately and then proceeded to wait for the move. I enquired as to how late they will be here and was told that they were 200km away (this was at 18:32. I did the maths (80 km per hour so around 3 hours) At 21:18, I enquired from the representatives as to where they were. My message was not read. I then contacted the driver who informed me that they took a wrong turn but that they are close to me now. They eventually stopped at my house at 10:26 and proceeded to offload. They finished after 12.
On enquiry with the driver he told me they were going to sleep somewhere and then head back to Stilfontein to upload the rest of my move and that they will see me "later today".
Needless to say, they did not arrive. When I enquired with the representative, she kept hammering on the fact that the driver cannot do another trip for R500 as diesel has to be bought and they have to be paid for their services. Which is not my problem as I was given a quote for the whole of my move, not a partial move. Therefor my whole move has to be done. Then she insisted that I asked for a 6 ton truck, which I did not as I would not know how much a 6 ton truck can move.
I am now waiting to hear how much an extra trip will cost me ... but I am referring this for legal advice and opening a case of *****
