Ill-treatment of customers by Renico

A Renico contractor by the name of Steven Dinkelmann came to my house to fix snags as part of the purchase contract of my property. Out of nowhere, be began harassing me, insulting me, intimidating me, threatening me and bullying me. The entire encounter from hello felt like an attack on his side and it left me feeling vulnerable and scared. He asked patronizing questions like am I renting or a buyer and when I told him that I was a buyer he said to me that he found it surprising that I have no knowledge of certain things. He continued to insult me with comments such as “Did your M’khulu not teach you to respect your elders?” His voice got louder as he continued to insult me, his body language got more aggressive as he was towering over me. He was outright abusive towards me. I tried to record him but the way I was so scared of this man in my house, I was shaking and I could not record him properly. The only video I have is is of his direct threat where he said, “I do not know where you work but I’ll find out”.

This incident ensued from a nasty chain of emails that I received from Eduan Leonard last week Thursday and Friday. Eduan is the Customer Liason Officer at Renico, his tone with me from last week has been patronizing and condescending. He was persistent in bullying me to the point where he refused to carry on with the work left from my snags. When I called Eduan to report the harassment incident with the contractor, he dismissed my complaint and took the contractor’s side. My attempts to escalate the situation led me back to Eduan. My partner and I went to Renico’s office and again Eduan was the only person available to deal with the issue and that exchange did not bear any fruit. We laid our complaint with a man called Dewald who said he worked in the road infrastructure of the business, he too left me feeling defeated because he was dismissive of the abuse that I as a woman endured in the hands of his colleague. He saw it suitable to dismiss my complaint by saying “Do you think it is the nature of the woman or do you think it is the contractor?”. I have the audio recording of the encounters. Dewald committed to getting back to me by yesterday EOD, needless to say to I have no feedback. I expected Renico to deal with this incident appropriately but unfortunately I’ve hit a dead end because they have not provided me with an escalation point for this horrible experience and they have not prioritized me as a customer.
