We could have been ****ED

Hello Peter,

In August last year we had a car accident in Gauteng. Our car got towed by our insurance to Renew-it Edenvale. After the initial assessment the quote came to R 92 000, our broker was of the opinion the vehicle should have been written off by the assessor, as "Zurich" would only spend R 78 750 on the vehicle repairs.

Then a second quote got carried out by Renew-IT and Alpheus (Zurich internal assessor) authorised R 57 000in repairs to be done by Renew-IT Edenvale.

The repairs got carried out and we received a call from the quality department from Renew-IT that we could fetch our car. While informing them that we will be driving up from KZN to Gauteng to collect our car we got told to wait an additional 3 days as the quality department of Renew-IT wasn't happy with something.

We eventually received a call on the Friday that the vehicle is ready for collection and on Monday morning we came through. When we got there at about 08:00 my husband immediately noticed that the spare wheel had been put on the front of the car where the accident had happened and that the wrong nuts where used, we then got instructed to wait as the right parts had been ordered but not yet been put on??? We queried why this hadn't been done yet and then got told that it was a mistake from their side. We waited until 13:00 after which they insured us that all repairs had now been done and then left to KZN.

While driving back to KZN we heard strange noises where coming from the front and we got very scared that the repairs had not been done properly. So upon arrival in KZN we immediately took the car to a local panel beater and they found that the car was unsafe for driving, a report got sent to our broker and Zurich and when this got discussed with Renew-IT they agreed that they would pay for the rectification repairs of about R25 000 After the repairs got done I asked our Broker to please inspect how this could have happened as I suspected unprofessional behavior by Renew-IT.

A mail got send to Deon Groupe (Zurich Regional Manager KZN) to appoint an internal assessor in KZN, in which he instructed a gentleman by the name of Pat to please carry out a technical audit on the above assessment.

It's now 8 months later and I still don’t know the outcome, my emails to our broker are in vain, I don't get an answer for an update on the audit and it seems that everyone is content with our lives that where jeopardized by Renew-IT.

I have opened a complaint on both Renew-IT’s name and Zurich here on Hello Peter hoping that this way someone will get back to me.

Regards, Iris
