Stay away from Renault Route 24!!!!!!
I bought my car from Renault Route 24 in November 2016 and have taken it for regular services. When I took it t Route 24 for a service in 2018 (the car was still within the 3 year warranty), I told them that I was having a problem with the boot lock - when trying to shut the boot sometimes the lock didn't catch and I would have to open and close it a few times before the lock worked properly. When I fetched the car after the service, they said they have fixed it. After using the boot a couple of times it was apparent that the lock hadn't been fixed at all, but the problem didn't happen all the time and the boot still locked properly, so I didn't take the car back. My problems occurred when I took the car for it's latest service on 12/12/2019. I booked it in for a service and did not mention the boot lock, I just wanted my annual service done. The car was now outside the 3 year warranty so I wasn't surprised when I got a call to say that brake pads and various other things needed to be done and the service would cost nearly R6000. They also tried to tell me that I needed new windscreen wipers at a cost of R1200 - which I declined - that is **************** and there was nothing wrong with my wipers when I took the car in. They also told me that I needed a new boot lock, which I also declined and said that they hadn't fixed it when I reported it a year previously so I was happy to leave it as it is - it still worked!!! When I went to fetch the car, I paid the money and when I opened my boot I found that someone had been working on it and had left off the plastic strip that goes across the edge of the boot (it's the piece that covers the boot lock etc). So I went back into the dealership and someone was called from the workshop to put it back correctly. When I tried to start the car, nothing happened, the battery was drained, so I went back into the dealership again and the same person was called from the workshop again. He then told me that it's not their fault that the battery is drained, it's drained because of the light in the boot being on constantly as the boot lock is broken. I said this was absolute ******* as this was not an issue when I brought the car in. The workshop manager was then called who told me he would sort it out. I waited for it to be fixed and was then told that they had disconnected the light so that I wouldn't have a problem and that I had to have a new boot lock. I said that I refused to pay for something that was working when I brought it in for a service. To which I was told that they didn't have any boot locks in stock anyway and would have to order from France. I then left under the impression that my boot was fine and it was just the light in the boot that didn't work.
I was so wrong...on my way home, I kept getting a dashboard message that my boot was open but I thought that perhaps it hadn't been shut properly and as I was on the highway, it was difficult to pull over so I drove home. My husband checked the car when I got home and basically my central locking was now broken, I was unable to lock the car AT ALL neither from inside or outside the car. How can anyone use a car that you can't lock?????
I immediately phoned Route 24 and asked to speak to the Dealer Principal, he did nothing except refer me back to the workshop manager again. When I said that they had basically broken my car and after paying nearly R6000 they had given my car back in a worse state than when they got it, he got very defensive and would not accept that the boot lock was THEIR problem. I took the car back the next day, and all they did was lock my boot manually so that the central locking worked again - so I am unable to use my boot at all, unless I pull down one of the back seats and access the boot from inside the car. I logged a complaint immediately and received a call from a young girl yesterday, asking if my complaint has been resolved. The answer is a resounding NO!!!
I would not recommend that you ever use this dealership, they were very quick to take my money when I bought the car and they did only what they had to while it was under the service plan, but once the 3 years were up they tried to wangle as much money out of me as possible. As far as I am concerned they are sharks and I will ensure that everyone I know is aware of how I was treated.
