Renasa bad service

I moved insurance as I was offered a rate 1/3rd of the price from mi way.My car was still insured at the time by Renasa when my Employee had an accident where the other person was at fault. Ive been waiting now for 2 months and they put in an offer of R25000 less the excess where the total damage was around R45000 according to the quotes. I have declined there offer but I'm scared to think how long this will take to get resolved mean while my vehicle is seriously damaged and I have to run around using it for my business.

Really not happy with the response time or the cheap shot and why am I paying the excess when we were clearly not at fault?

Dear Mr Collis 4th July 2018

We refer to your complaint received in our offices on 3rd July 2018 and write to advise that we have now completed our investigation into the issues raised. Our investigation has established the following:

An Assessor was appointed to assess your vehicle and report on the repair cost of damages.

The Assessor put a value to your vehicle of R41 952.00, he arrived at this value as follows:

Retail value – R60 800.00 less 8% for mileage and condition = R55 936.00

Less 25% for all round old damages (see Assessors notes attached) = R41 952.00

As the maximum repair cost for damages is calculated at 60% of the vehicle value, this would mean that the most we would be able to spend to repair this vehicle is an amount of R25 172.00.

Technically the vehicle is considered uneconomical to repair, and would be sold to the Salvage Contractor we have an agreement in place with. As you indicated to the Assessor that you did not want the vehicle treated as a total loss we asked the Salvage Contractor for a price for you to buy back the vehicle. As the Salvage Contractor was asking a rather high buy back price we referred the claim to our Head Office and suggested a cash in lieu settlement for you to be paid out and to attend to your own repairs.

This was the cause of claim being delayed, as it is not standard procedure for us to settle cash in lieu on uneconomical to repair vehicles.

The agreement of loss settlement for cash in lieu sent to your Broker was based on the maximum repair cost (which is the maximum cost we would use to repair the vehicle) of R25 172.55 less the policy excess of R3000 , bringing the pay out to R22 172.55.

We do apologise for the delays in sending through the claim settlement offer, which as mentioned above was due to us needing to motivate to our Head Office that you could retain your vehicle and get paid a cash in lieu settlement which goes against our agreement in place with our Salvage Contractor.

Should you not be satisfied with the outcome of our investigation into the matter you may request that this matter be referred to our head of legal and compliance for consideration. Should you wish to escalate the matter as aforesaid, this must be done within 10 (ten) working days of this letter or the furnishing of reasons for our decision if this has not already been done.

Kind regards

Judy Green
