REMAX GRASSY PARK NIGHTMARE

I met an agent from REMAX Grassy Park after I advertised a rental property. He offered to manage the rental. He had a potential client who had viewed the property the previous day and who I was not happy with, based on financial means. This person was both a friend of the principal and worked as an Estate Agent for Remax at their Grassy Park offices. The Principal, Mr Trevor November, personally vouched for him and confirmed that he had commissions due over the foreseeable future and he would guarantee payment which would be deducted from the commissions by arrangement. The projections beyond, based on his performance were also very good. It was not long into the lease when my nightmare started. REMAX provided me with zero invoices/ statements and their records were appalling. The rent and utilities fell into arrears in the first year. They failed to issue notice when I instructed them to and failed to collect rental as promised. They failed to inspect the property which had high end finishes and had fallen into neglect! Then came COVID and I could not evict the tenants. Remax did ZERO inspections at the property which was wrecked by the time I gained access. The arrears were around R200 000 (two hundred thousand rands). Remax appointed attorneys (very graciously) to recover the debt. Before conclusion of the legal processes, they ghosted me and refused to respond to any queries. I am now stuck with either abandoning the debt recovery after 4 years or to continue to pay the attorneys that REMAX appointed to finalise the process. At the introduction, I mandated them to manage all my other rentals. There were about 6 units. There were poor management issues on all! Besides poor records, there was never inspections carried out and the figures could never be reconciled. When they get payment, they readily deduct their commission but do ZERO to earn the commission other than process it!!!!!!!!!!!! All their undertakings were never honoured. REMAX has cost me around R300 000!
