A Disappointing Experience with RE/MAX Capitol Why Prospective Tenants Should Approach with Caution Engaging with RE/MAX CAP, particularly with agent Jacques Steenkamp and landlord Desiree Boy, has been a deeply frustrating and disheartening experience. My rental process was marred by unprofessional conduct, harassment, and questionable tactics surrounding the lease agreement. The bullying tactics and application of set rules and standards were not adhered to with reference to inspections and subsequent refusal to pay back any of my deposit. Major Issues Faced Inspections Not a single inspection was done within the framework of the rental law. Yet, my deposit is withheld based on the landlord say-so. Unprofessional Conduct The conduct of Jacques Steenkamp, the agent involved, was a significant contributor to the dissatisfaction experienced. His apathetic conduct only exacerbated the challenges faced during the rental process, making an already stressful situation even more exasperating. He explicitly says that because I spoke to the landlord directly involving the painting of the house without expressing the reason why, is my problem. She did so under false pretences anyway. At one point the money I paid over to the agency municipal services was not paid out to the landlord causing a major rift. I moved out 12 April 2025 as we agreed and was handed a list of expenses 14 May 2025. I have yet to see an inspection list. Final Thoughts The agency's lack of integrity, questionable practices, and disregard for fair treatment highlight the need for caution. My experience serves as a cautionary tale for others—avoid this agency at all costs to spare yourself the frustration and financial stress.
