Life cover

I took a life cover of 50 000, I cancelled it last week when I called to enquirer about my premiums a month before canceling they said I’ll get my premiums back, I’ve been trying to call them there’s not answer, till today they send an email telling me that there won’t be any money back but the guy whom I took the cover with said should I cancel it I will get money back.
