Unhappy Customer: Reckless Lending and Constant Harrasment and Threats
I went to a Makro store to buy some goods during 2023 and at entry was approached by a store credit consultant walking around on the floor with a tablet at hand. He asked me if I want to apply for a RCS card. Reluctantly I agree to check what I would qualify for, being aware that taking credit is not ideal situation and could damage me financially as things are already tight. Within 10 minutes he came back to me telling me I qualified for R 50 000 and have a RCS card ready. I was very surprised as I did not understand the vetting process. The guy was typing on the tablet and he did not give me a copy of the credit application where he filled out my expenses, income and other details, I think I did provide electronic consent to my bank statements, I did ask for a copy and was informed he will email...I never received. I app**** for loans from FSP's and either rejected based on affordability or given an option for a very insignificant amount, I was truly surprised for RCS giving me R 50 000.
I was wondering how I could qualify for R 50 000 without being properly vetted like Banks would do. After a few months I realize a terrible decision was made as I am struggling to pay of the credit and became dependant on the revolving loan (As I pay in, I use again) and are bombarded with calls from RCS from various concealed numbers and threatened to hand me over even although I was making payments but not to the exact amount due to affordability. Got a sms recently then to tell me that I have been handed over too Anthony Richards and Ass attorneys for collection. Wow, lets not waste time taking the Customer to the Cleaners!!
Even although I asked for a favourable payment term based on affordability (even after I asked for the suspension) of my account I am still bombarded daily with Threats. This Company gives me the impression they operate like loan sharks on a Grand scale.
RCS in my experience was not transparent, Don't provide the disclosure to loan agreement, inflexible to payment or renegotiation of debts amounts, Excessive high interest charges. Its a matter of drawing as much blood as possible. I felt I was mis-led, loan agreement copies and terms and conditions was not provided and not flexible to find a solution with for the customer being fully aware that millions of households struggle with debts repayments and being fully aware based on RCS's loan book that around a 1/3 of the customers struggling to pay. . I was surely blind sided walking into a Makro store that day, worst decision!, Thumbs Down in a Big way!
