They can open open an Card account in an hour, but it takes 36 days to close a Card account.

I recently(16th of January 2017) settled the outstanding balances on both my Game and Makro Cards which are admistered by RCS. The payments were done in accordance with the settlement letters that were sent to me by them, the payment was done in the specified time, and the proof of payment was also sent to them on the specified email address on the same day as that on which the payment was done. Together with the proof of payment we requested 'proof of closure' letters for each card.

On the 27th of January 2017 RCS Game Card debit my acount for an installment on my Game Card (11 days after proof of full payment was provided to them), we reversed the payment. I immediatly afterwards phoned to enquire why my account was debited when my account was settled in full 11 days earlier. The consultant informed me that it was due to my payment not reflecting on their system, which was strange because this was already 11 days later.

So we decided to check on the balance enquiry number that RCS provides to check the balances on one's RCS shop card, both the Game and the Makro cards reflected a balance of R0 due and R0 owing, which meant that my payment was received by them and must have been reflecting on their system. These balance checking numbers also revealed that both my cards were suspended.

When I phoned the call center again I was informed that I had a R1300 credit on my Game card, which I explained to them was the ******* debit order that was done on my bank account and that I have already reversed it. They insisted that I still have this R1300 credit on my card and that I either had to request this money to be payed back to me or that I had spend it at a Game store on my 'suspended' Game card (how the hell do they expect me to do this). But they insisted that I clear this credit first before they could provide me with closure letters for these two cards, and only in 36 days time.

My husband phoned the Credit Obudsman office to get some informations from them regarding closure letters, and they indicated that there is no reason for a credit provider not to supply you with a 'Proof of closure letter' within 24 hours of receiving one payment in their account, so I am perplexed at where RCS gets their 36 days from.

I need these closure letters within the next 24 hours, or the case will be handed over to the Credit Ombudsman. I am sick and tired of these credit provider companies such as RCS Cards gives their clients such a run around when they want settle their accounts. It is absolutely amazing that I could fill out a form to apply for a card in a Game Store and get card to buy on within 1 hour, but when it come to closing this same card after it has been paid in full takes 36 days before you can obtain proof of closure of this card.
