REFUSAL TO ACCEPT NOTICE OF DEATH
My dad has been a RCS customer for many years, but he sadly passed away on 01 November 2014. In the following week I started contacting his credit providers (he had insurance with all of them, in the event of death, unemployment etc.) of which RCS was one. This is where our problems started (keep in mind he was a regular payer, who always paid his accounts on time). I contacted RCS to inform them of his death, and to follow the subsequent steps to settle his account. Firstly the lady I spoke to was rude, pre-occupied and not interested in what I had to say. She refused to accept the BI1663 form (Notice of Death) issued and certified by the department of Home Affairs, as she rudely informed me they have their own documents which she will send for the doctor (who treated the deceased by time of death) to complete. The questions and criteria on this document was almost an exact copy of the BI1663. We got hold of the doctor, who completed the document at a cost of R850. After this was submitted, we received two letters from the collections department (dated 13 and 28 January 2015), threatening with legal action. Consultants we spoke to just said we must pay the outstanding.
