RCS Account ERRORS and not correcting the mistake on THEIR side!

I’ve been having issues with my RSC (Makro) account since November 2016. At the end of that month, an amount was paid into the account settling the debt amount leaving a credit balance. I only realized this when I looked at the December statement and being in credit obviously no debit order went off my bank account.

The problem is that the money paid into the account was not done by me and in January, after the holidays, I phoned the Accounts Department trying and resolve the issue. After numerous frustrating calls with I was informed that the account was indeed in credit and that they weren’t able to see where the payment came from.

Mid-January I went to one of the branches and hoped to get things sorted out but was informed that the system shows a reversal of the wrongful payment and that I should receive an updated statement at the end of January when the debit orders would commence as per usual. Unfortunately, this was also the time when the collection phone calls started. (Two or three per day!!!)

The system showed that the account was 2 months in arrears (unpaid debit orders for December and January). No matter how much I tried to explain the situation and that they should please update the system, the harassment calls continued. I also received a notice letter from the RCS collection manager informing me of all the negative consequences associated with non-payment…

At that point, I phoned the RCS collections manager and explained what happened. After about 40 minutes (yet again at my own cost for something that is not my fault) she said that I should leave it in her hands and that she will do further investigation and also make a note on the system. I asked for a confirmation letter as proof that they were investigating the problem.

NO letter was sent… NO update was made on the system… and the collection calls continued. I was now 3 months in arrears and the threats were getting serious.

At the end of January, I received an “updated” statement that for the life of me I could not figure out. Debits and credits with strange codes, all sorts of fees were added for the communication from the collection department. No amount tied up with the last correct statement from November and yet again I phoned the collection department to enquire.

Now the manager who originally handled my query was not available and the system did not show any investigation or communication from my side trying to resolve the problem.

It is now March and luckily the threatening calls ended but I’m still in the dark as to what is happening on my account. Today I phoned again to see if I could get an update and asked to speak to the manager but was informed that she is no longer taking calls from the public and that I should rather speak to a consultant. When I insisted on speaking to her as I was not going explain everything again, the gentlemen said that she just stepped out and was not available. I threatened to post my problem on Hello Peter and the social media

So this is my post about the absolute incompetence of the collection department and managers of RCS and their rude consultants…
