RAP Technologies (Pty)Ltd and Leo pumps
I have bought a Leo borehole pump at Obaro Wonderboom in Pretoria. On 2024-12-17 I have noticed that the borehole pump is not working. I went back to Obaro, where I was told that the compony RAP Technologies (Pty)Ltd, who distributed the Leo pumps, have already closed down for the festive season, and that I should bring it in early in January 2025. On the 17th of January 2025 I brought the pump to Obaro and they booked it in for repairs under warranty as this pump have a 24 month warranty. On the 27th of January 2025 I was called by a person from RAP Technologies (Pty)Ltd asking me the depth of the borehole, the size of the pipe from the borehole and the distance from the borehole to the water tank. The next day the salesperson from Obaro phoned me to say that RAP Technologies (Pty)Ltd refused to repair the motor of the borehole pump under warranty as the pump was “abused”. The report stated that “mud and water were discovered inside the motor stator and resulted in a short circuit and subsequent burnout of the motor”. I am not an electrician, but my basic knowledge tells me that NO water should get into an electric motor as it will cause a short circuit. The borehole water in my tank is crystal clear with no sediment or mud. On the 31st of January 2025 I have bought a new borehole pump, and it was installed precisely as the Leo pump was installed. The technicians have measured the water level in the borehole and measure the length of the pipe where the pump will hang in the borehole, and that were all good. I have sent my complaint to RAP Technologies (Pty)Ltd and received an e-mail back that they want to talk to me. I have notified them that I need all correspondence in writing. I have heard nothing again from RAP Technologies (Pty)Ltd. I have sent a complain to the Ombudsman and received notification of receipt from them stating: Your complaint has been sent to the supplier for them to investigate and provide feedback. They are given 15 business days to conclude their investigation and provide feedback. We will provide you with feedback as soon as we received it. The 15 business days given to the supplier to respond is merely an indication of the timeframe it might take, this can take longer taking into account the circumstances of each matter. Kindly be advised there is no time frame within which a complaint will be resolved. It must be understood that the process of investigating a complaint is a lengthy and cumbersome process. I have asked progress by e-mail from the Omdudsman on 13th May 2025, and received NO reply. Today the 14th of June 2025 still NO reaction from RAP Technologies (Pty)Ltd as well. I am of opinion that when a product is purchased, the warranty should be honoured. Borehole pumps are made to be in the water, and therefore NO water is supposed to get in the motor. People should be warned NOT to purchased products from ******* suppliers.
