I chose Randburg Movers based on a quote of R8,260, which was about R1,000 cheaper than their competitor. To keep costs down, my husband and I moved all the boxes and smaller items that could fit into a Caddy and trailer ourselves. I was also extremely meticulous when completing their online inventory because I wanted to avoid any disputes later. Based on my inventory, Marnie from Randburg Movers quoted two loads using a Cabstar and trailer, with the entire move to be completed in one day. Unfortunately, that is not what happened. After the first load, we waited an unusually long time for the truck to arrive at our new home. Although we left after the driver, we never saw him on the road. He later admitted that he deliberately avoided the shorter Krugersdorp Highway and instead took the much longer N1 route because the trailer was unlicensed and he wanted to avoid police checkpoints. At no stage was I informed that an unlicensed trailer would be used for my move, nor did I agree to assume the risk of having my belongings transported in a vehicle that could potentially be impounded. Had the trailer been stopped by SAPS, my possessions would have been caught up in the consequences of their non-compliance. Because of the unnecessary detour, the move could not be completed in one day. This delayed the handover of our previous home to the new owners, leaving us to deal with understandably upset buyers and an embarrassed estate agent. My husband and I also had to allocate an additional day to the move and make extra trips ourselves resulting in additional fuel and travel costs. By the end of the second day, only about 90% of our belongings had been moved. At that point, Randburg Movers demanded an additional R4,560—more than 50% of the original quoted price—before they would complete the move and assemble the items they had simply dumped on my lawn. Four out of five garden statues were left lying on the lawn with a promise that they would be assembled. Only one was assembled, and it was assembled incorrectly. My bar was also left outside on the lawn incomplete because only half of it had been delivered. When I questioned the additional charges, I was accused of adding items that were supposedly not on my inventory list. I repeatedly asked Marnie to identify these items or provide the photos she claimed to have. Despite several requests, she never produced any evidence. It became clear to me that the move had been underestimated from the beginning. Rather than accepting responsibility, Randburg Movers attempted to shift the blame onto me by alleging that I had added items and later by claiming that I had failed to mention my garden statues required assembly—something their online inventory never asked. Despite everything, I still tried to resolve the matter professionally. I asked to speak to the owner and was told he was in Cape Town. He did not take my calls. I suggested that we meet at their offices and include him on a call if necessary so we could reach a fair resolution and complete the move. We drove to Randburg the next morning as we committed in a Whatsapp to Marnie. When we arrived at the office address listed on their website my husband called Marnie. She said they no longer operated from those premises and that they would not meet us in person. We were told to send our concerns via email instead. This entire experience was stressful, expensive and completely avoidable. What started as a quoted one-day move turned into days of delays, unexpected costs, poor communication, incomplete work and an unwillingness to accept accountability. I cannot recommend Randburg Movers based on my experience.
