DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO RAND ROVER CENTRE OWNED BY CHARL STANZ!!!

On the 10th of October 2017 I had Land Rover Freelander II car towed into Rand Rover Centre (back then they were in Fairland but are now in Randburg) as the car had overheated on 08 October 2017 (3 days after I had bought it in a private sale). The owner of Rand Rover Centre Charl Stanz said he would assess it and get back to me. On 11 October Charl Stanz got back to me and told me the motor had ceased and he would need to strip the engine to assess the damage and quote me for repairs to the damage. On Thursday 19 October we spoke telephonically and he suggested I buy a 2nd hand engine through him, to which I responded that I could not afford a 2nd hand engine and needed someone who could repair my engine. He claimed that this is work he can do instead of turning me away and saying he cannot do this job, and asked me to SMS him the email address to which he could send the quote and I did so. On 20 October 2017 I received a quote for R32 839.39 for parts and labour to complete the work of repairs to my engine. He said that he will start the work so long, but I must pay a deposit of 50% in order for him to secure parts and cover himself on the labour. He claimed that the work would be complete and the car would be ready for collection on 27 October 2017. On 23 October 2017 I paid the 50% deposit to the amount of R16 420 to Rand Rover's FNB bank account and sent him proof of payment, with a note that the remaining 50% will be paid after test driving and collecting the vehicle on 27 October 2017. On 27 October 2017 he was not picking up my calls. I eventually got hold of him on the next business day Monday 30 October 2017 by going to the Rand Rover workshop. He said the car is not ready and that he needs another 2 weeks with it and that further work needs to be done. He did a further quote on the spot and printed it out for me, the total quote for the work to repair my engine now came to R54 050. I approved the quote on the spot as I just wanted my car to be fixed. A week later on 06 November 2017 I phoned him to follow up on progress, he said the majority of the work was now done and that he just needs to assemble the engine but I must pay a further R20 000 so that he can pay for parts and engineering. On 10 November 2017 I paid a further R20 000 deposit to the Rand Rover FNB account, bringing my total deposit to R36 420 of the new quote of R54 040. On 06 November Charl Stanz had claimed the new collection date when the car would be ready would be 13 November 2017. On 13 November 2017 I had still not heard from Charl Stanz about collecting my car. He was not answering my calls on that day so I tried again on 14 November still with no success and he claimed via SMS that he was busy in a meeting. I sent him an SMS requesting an update on the engine repairs as I desperately needed the car by latest Friday 17 November to travel to Eastern Cape for a funeral. He sent me an excuse via WhatsApp on 17 November 2017 after I had repeatedly tried to call him, claiming that he wasted time on the night of 16 November 2017 working on the car but the engine is still not in good shape. In the WhatsApp message he said he had given it thought and he would rather buy a 2nd hand engine at no additional cost to me. He said he had phoned an engine supplier and sent his driver to fetch the engine to finally resolve this issue and also confirmed that it would be at the last agreed quote of R54 050. I asked him if all of this would be done by the time he closes that day as I needed to attend a funeral in Eastern Cape with the car. He did not respond. I therefore had to make alternative travel arrangements.

Upon my return from the Eastern Cape on 20 November I called Charl Stanz and requested the truth about my car. The lies continued. That week I called him and told him that if my car is not ready by the end of the week I would be collecting it with a tow truck and demanding a refund. Indeed, as expected, the car was not ready so I went to Rand Rover Centre to collect my car and phoned a tow truck to collect it. When I got there he came up with more excuses and gave me a BMW 330d to use as a courtesy car while I was waiting for the work on my car to be completed. Through December 2017 and January 2018 I still never heard anything from Charl Stanz on the work on my car being completed so that I could return the courtesy car and collect my car. In February I gave him a call and he gave me more excuses. I decided to show up unannounced at Rand Rover Centre in Fairland and he was not there, so I went into the workshop to speak to his employees who work on the cars. They informed me that the car had been sitting idle for a long time with no work being done on it as no engine had been found. This despite the numerous lies from Charl Stanz about the work on my car and the engine replacement. I took pictures of the state of my car as evidence as I could see back then already that this will become a legal matter in the future. On Thursday 08 March 2018 I followed up with Charl Stanz on WhatsApp as he was not picking up my calls. In the message I informed him that I have been trying to get hold of him with no success. I also informed him that I need to drive to Eastern Cape the following week and asked whether the work on my Land Rover Freelander II will be done by then. He never got back to me. On Friday 06 July Charl Stanz called me saying he wants his courtesy car back and claimed he needed to trade it in as part of another vehicle purchase. He claimed that once the trade in is done, I will receive the replacement vehicle he is purchasing as a courtesy car. I informed him that it is not courtesy cars that I am interested in, but the completion of the work on my own car. He assured me that the work on my car would be completed by Friday 13 July 2018 as the replacement engine was there at his premises and would just need to be fitted, so I would only need the courtesy car for 2 days. Suffice to say his word did not mean much to me by this stage. We made arrangements that I would drop off the BMW 330d on Monday 09 July 2018 and collect the courtesy car on Wednesday 11 July 2018. As agreed, I dropped off the BMW 330d courtesy car in the afternoon of Monday 09 July 2018 at Rand Rover Centre in the exact same condition I had collected it in, and personally handed him the keys to the courtesy vehicle. I informed him that I would collect the courtesy car on Wednesday and that I want my car to be ready as he had promised on Friday 13 July. On Wednesday 11 July I called Charl Stanz to make arrangements to collect the replacement courtesy car and he told me yet another lie about the replacement car not having been delivered to him yet. I told him to forget the courtesy car as I am no longer interested in stories, and that I would just wait for my car which he claimed would be ready for collection on Friday 13 July. On Friday 13 July he told me more stories about the work on my car not yet being complete. On Tuesday 17 July I first tried to call Charl Stanz to follow up on my car but he hung up the call without answering, I then sent him both an SMS and WhatsApp informing him that his stories about my car being ready every next week have been going on for almost a year now and that I cannot tolerate this any longer. I informed him that if I do not hear from him by Friday 20 July close of business about my car being ready for collection, I would be arriving on Monday 23 July to collect my car with a tow truck and that I expect a full refund of all monies I have paid to Rand Rover Centre thus far. He did not respond to my message. On the morning of Monday 23 July I arrived at Rand Rover Centre and called a tow truck to collect my car. The receptionist Marietjie informed me that she knew nothing about my car and that Charl was out of the office. I tried several times to call Charl Stanz but he did not answer and simply sent an SMS saying he is out of office until 14:00. I went into the yard with the permission of the receptionist and noticed my car was not in the workshop, it was in a terrible state, it had been stripped and oily parts had been put inside my car dirtying the entire interior. My engine was nowhere to be seen, my expensive battery was missing, the back spoiler had been broken off and thrown inside the car, the back left light cover had been stripped for no apparent reason as well, as the only work that needed to be done on this car was an engine replacement in the front of the vehicle. I took pictures in the yard as evidence to share with my attorneys for the upcoming court case. I returned to Rand Rover Centre at around 15:00 in the afternoon the same day and told Charl Stanz I am here to collect my car. He gave me an excuse about the person who sold me the car having apparently told him the previous Friday not to do any further work on the car and that is why no work had been done on the car. This despite him having had my car at his workshop since 10 October 2017. At this stage, the lies from Charl Stanz did not even make sense anymore. The BMW 330d vehicle that had been taken away from me as a courtesy car and was apparently sold was parked in the side alley road. Yet another of Charl Stanz’s lies had shown their ugly head. It is clear there was never going to be a replacement courtesy car. I told him I had a tow truck on the way to collect the car and he said I must wait an hour and a half for him to get the car out. He then changed his mind and said he is going to be intentionally difficult and will not remove my car from the yard the same day and I must come back the following day (24 July 2018) with a truck to collect the car. On 24 July 2018 my Land Rover Freelander II was towed by the AA from Rand Rover Centre in Randburg to a professional workshop that will not strip my car and ***** my parts, engine and battery. The inspection sheets from the AA from the time it was dropped off at Rand Rover Centre on 10 October 2017 and when it was collected/towed away on 24 July 2018 clearly note the missing parts. and damage to the vehicle. My attorneys AVDM Attorneys are now handling the matter. They have served Charl Stanz and Rand Rover Centre with two letters of demand - 1 for the R36 420 I paid to Rand Rover Centre & another for the damages to my vehicle. The matter will be going to court if my money is not paid to my attorneys within 14 days of the Letter of Demand. USE RAND ROVER CENTRE AT YOUR OWN RIS****!
