Excellent Rand Club Dinner

We had a very romantic late afternoon dine at the Rand Club Restaurant in central JHB. From parking our vehicle till driving away was a unique and romantic experience. Formally dressed and friendly staff greeted us in the secure parking in front of the century old building. Walking trough the doorway one moves back in town to the Hay Day of the CBD in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Floors d****d in carpet, a prominent staircase seemingly leading to “heaven”. Though it is a ground floor restaurant, friendly staff took us on tour in the antique lift to the “classic” 2nd floor classic library.

The restaurant decorations also take one back to a golden era with a teak wood counter regarded as the longest on the continent, apparently. Chairs are soft and comfy with welcome spaces between the tables ( not aiming an squishing in as many table as possible). The food was divine. I had Thai Fish cakes and Mrs had a Greek salad with fresh ingredients. The fish cakes perfectly done, with no overdone crust. I had a popper coffee for closing while Mrs enjoyed aroma rich tea from the wide selection. The restrooms are 5 star with clean hand towels for each customer. Departing we were friendly greeted in the parking lot by staff.
