Refusal to pay a cash refund

A ticket was purchased on Saturday the 18th June 2016 on Ramsa Coach Registration No. NP 182284 to transport my wife’s daughter from Johannesburg to Kabwe Zambia at a cost of R800.00 . The understanding was that she would reach there by midday on the following day.

Unfortunately due to the transport experiencing 3 breakdowns before even reaching Pretoria & 10 hours later I was left no alternative but to fetch her and make other arrangements to ensure her safe & timeous passage back to Zambia as she had some business appointments to attend later on Sunday.

When I discussed the situation with the driver I was directed to contact the Johannesburg office with a view to a ticket refund.

I went to the office on Monday the 20th June and eventually met with Pastor Joseph who I was led to believe was the person in charge.

I presumed that he called his superior during that meeting and subsequently requested that my wife come to the office again on Wednesday at 14:00hrs to collect the refund.
I phoned Pastor Joseph at 10:30hrs on Wednesday to confirm the meeting and receipt of the refund. He assured me that all was in order.

My wife arrived in time for the meeting (14:00hrs) and was told the Pastor had gone to church and no one knew anything about a refund. My wife sat there until 16:30hrs with no sign of the Pastor or the courtesy of a phone call apologising.

During this period I phoned him numerous times and sent WhatsApp messages also to no avail.

I have encountered at least R300.00 in additional costs being shunted back and forth.

If this is the way your staff represent Ramsa Holdings in S Africa I don’t envisage you being here very long.

In view of the above I request that you advise me as to whether there is any intention of the ticket refund being honoured.

If not, I will have to contact my attorneys and the Consumer Protection Act which as you may be aware is administered by the Department of Trade & industry (DTI) and request that they take the necessary action against Ramsa Holdings. This would without doubt not show your Company in a good light.
I certainly will not be availing myself or my family of your coach services again.
