Railway breaking the law

Account: ********** My aunt passed away last year August 2017. We went to Railway furnishers to notify them of the incident and produced death certificate. Now we have been notified that the account is in arrears and they will come collect the goods. What baffles me is that my aunt was a pensioner and thus should not have been granted credit. How was she going to pay the account of balance of R8500,on a grant? Surely there is some shinanagans that is being done Railway. She was also a widower, without children therefore who co-signed for her that in case anything happens the person will continue with the debt? Also wasn’t she supposed to have been isured so that if such incident the account will be settled? Who is now supposed to pay for these goods, shouldn’t insurance cover this? There clearly is some law that Railway furnishers is breaking by opening account for pensioners and not even insuring them. I will not allow for this to continue , surely the National Credit Regulator needs to know about the these discrepencies

Dear Boitumelo,

Thanks you for supplying account details to enable us to respond given the unfortunate loss of your aunt. As this is a public site we are unable to provide certain details save to say that your aunt had been a customer of ours for many years and a very good payer. At no time was any financial distress reflected in her payment history. To this end we are satisfied that our affordability assessments were accurate throughout our relationship. Due to her age she did not qualify to purchase a Death or Funeral Benefit however in such circumstances, it is company policy to allow family members to pay the account off and at lower instalments depending on circumstances. Our records indicate that there have been attempts to resolve payment issues as the outstanding amount remains due.. We will make contact with you to hopefully finalise. Should you wish to initiate this contact, please call our head office on *** and ask for the legal department remembering to have an ID or account number at hand.

We assure you of our commitment to resolve this issue reasonably and express our condolences in respect of your loss.
