Refused return after less than an hour of purchase

I'm appreciative of the sales and somewhat good prices at Rage shoes and clothing. However their return policy is unfair. I made a purchase of boots and opted for no box(for the environmental saving purposes) and less than an hour after buying the shoes cash I decided to return them, I was then told I couldnt return them because the box was thrown away and therefore the shoes could not be returned. I asked to take something else in the store of and I was refused that opportunity and this was less than an hour after purchasing the shoes. Their return rules dont make sense especially because it was less than an hour after purchase.
