not happy

Got a present of shoes in Dec the 17th and only wear them on Tuesday for the first time. They wanted the receipt and I told them I don't have as the shoes were a gift. They called head office I edenvale but still they want a receipt. How am I suppose to get a receipt whereas the shoes were a present?
