Horrible vet
If you want to go to a vet clinic that is only interested in money and does not care about your pet this is the correct place for you.
I lost my cat that was like a child to me due to their incompetence. My cat, Dettlaff started getting sick the Sunday evening. It was not an emergency at the moment, but it was enough of a concern for me to know he had to go for a check up first thing in the morning. I took him in early the Monday morning and after just checking temperature and looking at his gums he was given an antibiotic injection. I was told that it is possibly just a tummy bug causing him to vomit and not have an appetite. I was told to not give him food for the day so his stomach can "rest".
Next day Dettlaff was eating again and was looking much better. I thought it was just a bug like the vet told me. Vets know best right?
Wednesday he was still fine in the morning, but in the afternoon he stopped eating again. I went to check up on him every 30 minutes only to find him hyperventilating. I grabbed him immediately and phoned the vet telling them something terrible is wrong on and that I am on my way.
I get there only to have the vet tell me that he is not really hyperventilating. You can clearly see the cat is struggling to breath, but this woman will not even listen to his breathing via the stethoscope as a vet normally would. She checks the temperature and gums - tells me nothing is wrong. She can clearly see my and my cats distress.
She gives me a whole speech about how my behaviour is making my cat sick. She disregards entirely that I lost my 4 month old kitten a month before and that I am reacting this way because this cat is my everything. She did Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS tests just to show me how healthy and not sick my cat is while he is on her table struggling to breath. At a point I doubted myself so much that I accepted that perhaps I am overreacting due to my loss a month earlier and that I need to pull myself together for Dettlaffs sake.
They charged me for the consultation despite the follow up consultations supposedly being free, but hey maybe they were punishing me for wasting their precious time. I paid the massive bill anyways just relieved that my cat will be okay. I remember how in front of other clients everyone had a good laugh at my cat that is so obviously fine and this silly client having panic attacks.
That night I saw how my cats breathing got worse and worse. I sat with him trying to calm him down and to reassure him he will be okay. I decided that I needed to take him to another vet.
Early the next morning I took him to another vet. This vet did not think it was a joke or an overreaction. Maybe because he actually used a stethoscope to listen more closely. He told me immediately that this is very serious and that something is wrong with Dettlaffs lungs. I left him with this vet for tests. I was kept updated through all the tests. First they saw what looked like growths in his lungs from a X-ray. He did more tests and later on we found the cause: Warfarin (rat poison). My cat accidently got hold of one of my dads Warfarin pills the Saturday evening. The "growths" in his lungs was blood. He was slowly drowning in his own blood.
The vet started treatment immediately and Dettlaff was responding well to the treatment. But suddenly after about an hour he went into shock and despite all their efforts he passed away.
He passed away because the vet the day before did not do her job. Her arrogance and incompetence wasted valuable time.
I did not expect them to know the Monday already that it was something so serious. It was not obvious and I did not expect these vets to link vomiting to poisoning immediately. No one would have known at that moment.
But the emergency visit on the Wednesday was where it became unacceptable. Making a mockery out of my cat that was clearly in distress and making me believe that I am just a stupid pet owner that does not know better. If you do not know what is wrong you can just say so, but do not with all the confidence in the world tell me my pet is okay.
A few hours could've saved Dettlaffs life - what could almost a day have meant for him? He died at just over an year old. It is almost 5 months since I lost him and I still cry and I blame myself daily for trusting such horrible vets.
They even deleted the Facebook review I left. Maybe they thought they could hide what happened.
