Thumbs down Qatar Airlines!

Being 1 of the 5 passengers who missed our flight last night on Qatar flight QR1360 to Doha, i wish to state that we found the staff of Qatar Airways to be very inefficient, playful and ******!! We got detained at immigration due to my son having forgotten my grandsons birth certificate which i personally feel should have been requested for at the check in counter, but was overlooked by the Qatar staff at O.R Tambo International.

Had they requested for it than, we would have had ample time to fetch the birth certificate!

The immigration officer expected us to turn back home and fetch the birth certificate 20 mins prior to take off! He than approached his senior and asked him if we will be allowed on the flight without the birth certificate..The senior officer arrogantly asked us what passport do we hold and we rep**** that we are South African citizens. He started preaching to us that we dont respect the laws of the country and cant do as we please. We explained that we do understand that it is a requirement but in haste the birth certificate was forgotten and that no one was home to check and email a copy to us since the entire family were booked on the said flight. They than started playing ping pong, the one asking the other if he gives permission for us to board. They carried on with this for what felt like an eternity whilst i kept begging them to please call a senior so that we can explain that the baby is not being kidnapped, that he is my grandson and his parents are with as well but to no avail. To the officers this was like a sick game with comments like "whats your prayer going ro help you" and "If you had a flat tyre will GOD come help you" etc...when they heard my sister asking the Almighty to help us as we were on the verge of missing our flight.

Having been dropped off at the airport by my husband, we contacted him and asked him to urgently to go our sons house and email copy of the birth certificate to us. In the interim my son received calls stating that if we dont board the flight our luggage will be taken off. He explained our dilemma and asked the officer to please give us a few minutes and that as soon as we can prove to the immigration officer that we do have the birth certificate, we'll board.

In the meantime my sister and i started running towards the boarding gate. A fellow male passenger who was also delayed was running ahead of us. He was allowed through the boarding gate and when we arrived there practically a minute later, we were told the flight had taken off!!!????

My son and his family who were also running towards the boarding gate just stopped and stood and watched in dismay as they watched the stairway closing in.

This begs the question...were we treated in this manner and made to look like idiots because we were females trying to negotiate with the emmigration officers while my son was busy on the phone explaining to my husband where he can find the birth certificate (as they live independantly) and asking the boarding officials on the other hand to please give us a few minutes extra to board OR were we denied to also run through the boarding gate as our fellow South African passenger because we are of a diffirent skin colour and of an inferior ***??

To add insult to injury, we were told that our tickets have been forfeited due to NO SHOW!! With boarding passes in hand..its a NO SHOW?? We had to book a flight for the next day as all our hotels to the destinations we will be travelling to had been booked already!. Who made a hole in our pockets???????
