Qatar - not so great in my opinion.

I recently flew Cape Town/Doha/Larnaca/Doha/Cape Town in business class which has been rated the best in the world. Although the experience within the cabin was excellent with very modern seating options and the service on board was good, there are a number of areas where they could improve. The courtesy bag which they hand out in business class is below average and doesn't even contain a toothbrush, toothpaste and a comb which is standard on most other airlines. The check-in is laborious especially at Larnaca where all the Covid and other documents have to be scanned one by one although the details were already loaded in the reservation. I stood in the queue for over an hour (There was only one business class counter and one online check-in/bag drop counter). The business class lounge at Larnaca is not great but they do share it with other airlines so not entirely their fault. The layover in Doha of 7 hours is tedious so we decided to use the "Quiet Lounge" to try and rest. No thought has gone into the design of this area. Each cubicle contains either a couch and a chair with a footstool or two chairs, both of which are extremely uncomfortable. There is a huge amount of wasted space that could have been used to provide a more comfortable arrangement for sleeping. They provide you with a blanket but no pillow. The food offering in the eating area of this loung is very limited although I believe there is an a la carte restaurant further away. We also had 2 wheelchairs booked but only one was available and there was huge confusion in Doha when disembarking and insufficient golf carts and staff who admitted they were understaffed. On the return leg from Doha to Cape Town after the initial service, the crew vanished and it was difficult to get service. When we complained we were told, " it was a long flight and they needed to rest"! Not what you expect in Business Class. So in my opinion, if they expect to retain their title of the best Business Class etc in the World they will have to take a good look at some of their shortcomings.
