Nightmare Experience with Qatar Airways at OR Tambo International

My wife's elderly parents (aged 68 & 70) suffered **********ly for 3 days at the hands of Qatar Airways ground personnel, at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa. They endured tremendous pressure and great injustice by unreasonable, unrelenting and ill-informed employees, who treated them with disinterest and contempt.

22 February 2022 1. Aged Parents Denied Entry Into flight because of Un-updated System at OR Tambo. 2. Stubborn refusal of ground Staff to call Qatar Supervising Manager, to get real facts about new travel regulations. 3. Flexi-tickets oddly charged an additional R29 156(ZAR) for economy class seats at OR Tambo by ground agents, while Qatar Customer Care would have done it for free of charge. 4. Illogical reasoning why tickets purchased on the same day are now rebooked - One ticket for an R23894 (ZAR) and the other for an additional R5262 5. No staff available at Qatar Office till after 10:30 6. Extra Car Parking Money paid for unexpected delay at OR Tambo 7. Expense of R1000(ZAR) incurred for unnecessary PCR tests

23 February 2022 1. Once again completed all the documentation. 2. Collected Original PCR test result.

24 February 2022 1. X-ray machine not working at check-In counter 2. Seconds before boarding their flight, my elderly parents are called aside and told, 3. "It's nothing serious and the supervisor wants to talk to them". 4. Ground personnel run back and forth between them and supervisor, wasting precious time. 5. Mom refused the right to remove "dangerous object" in luggage. 6. Supervisor never comes to meet them. 7. My parents are told to make a decision: separate or take the afternoon flight together. 8. Parents unable to travel together. 9. Mom doesn't have a South African SIM and thus we can't make contact with each other. 10. WIFI not working at OR Tambo Airport. 11. Ground Personnel don't get my contact details. 12. Ground Personnel leave her alone and she wanders outside. 13. Struggle to locate Mom. 14. Rebooked Ticket with Wheel Chair Assistance, 15. Forced to take another unnecessary PCR test for R1500(ZAR) at OR Tambo airport. 16. Diabetic mom's sugar level's start falling 17. No staff at Qatar office after 10:00. 18. Extra car parking expense incurred once more. 19. Unpack and repack luggage to search for unspecified "dangerous object" 20. First leg of Flight not cancelled for the 24 February 2022 and therefore 21. Prohibited from Online Check In for the 25 of February 2022.

25 February 2022 1. Not asked for PCR at Online Check In Podium, because Mom was vaccinated in India. 2. Counter 33, Ground Personnel ask for PCR. 3. Not all personnel updated regarding new regulations. 4. Asked for a medical certificate for 68 year old mom to access wheel chair. 5. Almost denied wheel chair assistance, though specified on the ticket. 6. I lose my composure under extreme pressure. 7. We are told to wait anywhere for Qatar Duty manager. 8. Qatar Duty Manager told that no one is waiting. 9. We spot the Duty Manager as he is about to leave. 10. We rush and finally have a chance to voice our grievances. 11. Pay again for extended parking at OR Tambo.
