Worst electricity company ever! Needs to be independently audited and shut down!!

Protea metering is the worst electricity service I have ever experienced to the point I’m consulting my lawyer, which they will hear from by next week. They are busy with *****ery service and have no answers to your questions about how your electricity is being charged. How can I put electricity on a Friday and I have not even been home that whole day or night, return the next morning and I have R14.00 left of what I bought? They switch off the electricity when the balance is 00.10, ten cents!! How do you switch off electricity at ten cents? Even the municipality of Tshwane doesn’t do that. I have a right to water and ELECTRICITY and it is Protea Metering’s job to make sure I can afford the electricity being given to me and not overcharge the tariff that should be approved by the municipality of Tshwane. Which by the way I have called and they will be sending someone to check the meters. Giving me email notifications three hours after you have cut off my electricity over a balance of 10 cents is ludicrous and this always happens when I’m at work and the kicker is when I go back to the app and check again 3 more cents have been added. The electricity is off, how do you add 3 more cents on top of the 10 cents that I owe for me to pay so my electricity can be restored?? Make it make sense. I’m buying electricity almost everyday and everyday I’m calling demanding to know where is it going, the customer service agents don’t even have answers for me. They don’t even know where it’s going. I’m telling you right now I’ve had enough. ENOUGH! They think they can trample over people because we are gonna take it. They don’t know me. I’m not taking it and soon enough my lawyer will definitely let them know that and demand that something be done with my meter. Protea metering, are you gonna take me to work everyday since you want me to buy electricity everyday and you deplete my electricity EVERYDAY?? That’s how I know your business is shady because you keep on depleting it even when I’m not there and when I call, your own agents are also confused at to what is taking my electricity. Why do you show us how much money we should be putting in instead of showing us how much units we have left like how prepaid does it? Why are you combining the water and electricity bill? They should be two separate accounts, two separate bills. When speaking to your manager she’s even rude and won’t answer or has the lack of answers we need to understand WHERE IS MY ELECTRICITY GOING EVERYDAY?? That Ashley girl. I have the right to see my electricity meter as it is part of my constitutional right and I will be having my own electrician present with the electrician of the city of Tshwane there as well while reviewing my meter. This company needs to be audited, reviews and completely shut down with their *****ery activity.

Good day Tapiwa

It is not at all possible for us to deplete your electricity.  Only the members of your household have access to your  geyser's electricity consumption and other electrical appliances and you are therefore the only ones who have any control over what is consumed.  Nobody outside of your household should be expected to explain what is taking your electricity.

Please log in to your consumption profile on OAMI that will enable you to monitor & manage your daily electricity consumption.

Protea Metering was appointed for the electricity and water reading service, and as such that is our responsibility - to capture the electricity and water readings.

Your average daily electricity consumption is around 10 kWh.  The total usage for March was 308 kWh and for April it was 317 kWh.  These are absolutely normal consumption figures.

It is not our responsibility to ensure that you can afford electricity as you have stated.  It is our responsibility to ensure that electricity is sold at the NERSA approved Tshwane tariffs, and that we are indeed doing.  The approved tariff document will be forwarded via email.

In terms of the water, it may indeed be on the same account as the electricity.  If you are in possession of any Tshwane bylaws that state otherwise, be so kind to forward that to us?

Please note that the Tshwane water tariffs include the fixed network access charge for both water and sewer.  These fixes charges are split and billed daily to prevent clients' credits to drop drastically, which should have been the case if the full amount would be deducted only once a month.

Please be on the look-out for the email that will be forwarded, apart from the tariffs we can also provide any additional information that you may require.  We will in that also provide the procedures & tariffs for additional services like reading confirmation and/or meter testing.

Kind regards
