UNDERHANDED AND ******* TACTICS

we rented a flat in Olympus Pretoria via Reality1 for my daughter who relocated from Durban. We called protea metering to be told the deposit to connect the electricity was R1800 which was paid 2days before moving into the place. Confirmation was sent to both reality 1 and protea metering with the address of the flat as a reference. On Wednesday my daughter gets home from work at 5.30pm to find the electricity has been disconnected with a note on the door. reason was the form was not received by them. Is this legal firstly? secondly we were not warned or informed before disconnection. Thirdly they had my dep with the ref 5 days prior to this. We had a fridge and freezer full of food, 2 turtles that need a heater to be on all the time. When we called he a/h no we were told that they cant connect it after hours. They are fully aware that we rented via realty1 so if they didn't have our contact details then at least wait for the tenant to be present. Absolutely useless and unhelpful with no consideration for my loss of food and my pets being put at risk. i would like to know why we have to be at the mercy of overpriced private companies who have no ethics.

Hello sonakjee,

You were informed of the required application to enable us to provide you with electricity. You chose to ignore this vital information. We do not waste clients' time with irrelevant, useless information.

Council bylaws state that the supply of electricity is subject to the receipt of the completed application form. Using electricity without providing the application form is therefore not only *********, but also *******. Cutting the supply due to non-receipt of the required documents is in accordance with the bylaws.

The only document received was the proof of payment. It does not provide information about whom you are renting from or your contact details.

Cut instructions are issued at 8:00 and cut actions are performed up to 15:00. Waiting for a tenant to be present is not a requirement of the bylaws and for obvious reasons not an option.

In future please regard any information provided via any means of communication as important?
