TOTAL *******!!!
I am a tenant at Saffron Gardens since June 2020, prior to moving into this complex I have rented 2 other units that did not have prepaid utility services and in comparison I can personally say that Protea Metering and their whole energy saving concept is utter bull****, I am paying triple the amount I used to pay for my water account and yes, I do get the whole water heating system charges but I don't see the point of going this route when in actual fasts .... it is only costing residents way more than we would pay using the normal Eskom services.
I have contacted Protea metering when I got my first bill at the end of June, after making several 20min+ calls and been promised feedback, to date I am still sitting with an unresolved issue - WHY AM I BEING CHARGED SUCH RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS FOR WATER? - Their staff are absolutely rude and have no idea what customer service is.
Residents are just being told to monitor their meters if we have a problem with our billing and should the reading be incorrect then they will look into the matter - WHILST THE NUMBERS REFLECTING ON THE METRE MIGHT TIE UP WITH THE READINGS STIPULATED ON OUR INVOICES - OUR ISSUE IS THAT THE CONSUMPTION REFLECTING ON THE METER IS NOT CORRECT...HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR A HOUSEHOLD TO USE 500L OF WATER IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD? THERE IS NO FLAWLESS SYSTEM AND I THINK THE METERS INSTALLED BY PROTEA METERING IS DRASTICALLY FLAWED TO THEIR FAVOR!!! I will never rent a unit using this system again and certainly will not recommend their services to anyone.
Protea Metering did not develop the complex. The meters belong to the Body Corporate, and all funds collected from residents are paid over to the Body Corporate who are responsible for payment of the bulk Council account. There is therefore no basis for your accusation that the meters are purposely flawed to favor ourselves and stripped from all truth.
Official figures for average water consumption in Gauteng per person is between 230 to 350 liters of water per day. All this information was distributed to all our clients - please take note of the content of all the informational documents that were provided during lock down to assist clients to minimize consumption.
You do not have a geyser inside your unit but you are supp**** with hot water via communal heat pump systems. Take note again - a decision that we were not involved in as we were appointed for the metering service only after the units were developed.
Charges are calculated according to the promulgated tariffs. If the readings reflected on the invoice is in line with the readings reflected on the meters, then the invoice is correct.
What you need to keep in mind is the fact that the hot water that you are consuming has used electricity to heat up the water and you are therefore billed for the energy component as well. In a normal household the geyser's energy consumption makes up about 75% of the total electricity consumption. There is therefore nothing wrong if the central heating system's electricity charge according to the number of kl of hot water consumed is more than the rest of your electricity consumption.
Council bylaws provide the regulations to be followed should you suspect that the meters are faulty to have it tested. You have this option to you avail - if you are convinced that the meters are faulty you have nothing to loose to make use of these services.
Kind regards
