The OAMI Platform is a S C A M

I recently moved into Kleijne Wingerd which uses the OAMI platform and this was my first time being introduced to the online system – a complete S C A M. I went from spending R900 on electricity at my old place which was also under Protea Metering but had a prepaid meter, to almost R1 500 in this new area.

My electricity usage is consistent to what I use on a monthly basis (the month is almost over and I’ve used about R858 worth of units), but these transaction costs/shared services fees are absolutely ridiculous. I am currently loading credits every other day because a good chunk of my money is going towards transaction costs/shared services which are being charged on a daily basis.

Having the prepaid meter in the unit is far more reliable because you could at least track the cost of the electricity yourself. The OAMI platform, which is clearly a cash grab operation, is committed to charging these small fees which eventually add up to the 30% of the bill and inflates how much the consumer normally would have spent if they had just loaded the units into a prepaid meter.

The C O R R U P T system aside, I was also faced with an issue whereby I experienced a power outage in my unit only to find out that my meter was connected to a unit downstairs, so I’m not even sure if this was rectified or if I’m still paying for my neighbour to keep their lights on.

All in all, I am aware that Protea Metering is not in the business to create a positive client experience and is more than happy receiving a barrage of negative reviews as long as their pockets are lined and the customer is drained of their funds, which is an unfortunate thing for any institution to prioritise.

Good day Ndumiso

OAMI is not a **** as it simply reflects exactly what a client uses.

You may consider that your previous address was in a different council district, meaning that you are not paying for electricity at the same rate as before.

For the old address, the promulgated tariff is as follows:
              | From      | To     | No of kwh in block  | Amount
| Bl. 1  | 0               | 350   |              350                      R2.10
| Bl. 2  | 351           | 500   |             200                       R2.41
| Bl. 3  |                               |           > 600                      R2.74

Where you are living now, the following promulgated tariff applies:
              | From      | To     | No of kwh in block  | Amount
| Bl. 1   | 0              | 600  |               600                       R3.44
| Bl. 2  |                              |            > 600                       R4.18

You will note the considerable difference.

Please note that the electricity tariff is not determined by any metering company.  The relevant Council Tariffs that were approved by NERSA apply.

Kind regards
