Protea Metering-Sad Business

Perhaps I do not understand what is going on? Could you allow me to just start a few months back. Firstly,my account has never been anything above R500, for example May and June I was below R500. Then came July whereby the amount tripled, weirdly enough and as much as I enquired about this, we (Me and my Flatmate) were not around most of the time during that month. My flat mate had gone to Germany and I had gone home but then again the bill came as triple the amount. I was told that it was due to us using electrical appliances like Heaters and geysers and yet again I had explained to (Protea Metering) the above scenario and furthermore explained that we haven't changed our geyser usage and non of us own a heater, specifically an electric one.

Now without concrete explanation nor evidence to support all this. I made arrangements to pay off this shockingamount within the next few months. I made constant payments according to what we had agreed on but either the amount increases or stays constant despite my payments, as with the most recent bill.

September I was informed that my bill is at R3054.86, I made payment of R1500 and yet again, I just get another e-mailed bill (For October) telling me I owe the exact amount as last month. It's quite funny that, i moved out of the previous apartment to try and get away from the crazy amount of electricity i was paying and yet lived alone.

I used to live in a bachelor, with a prepaid Protea Metering Account. I would spend about R100 a day for electricty, which was quite expensive. however, whenever i bought electricity, only half of the purchased amount would appear on the electricity metering box. i tried to enquiry and unfortunately, only the day after i had moved out to the new apartment, I than got an explanation of why. The explanation was that, if you have a prepaid box and do not open an account with Protea Metering, whenever you purchase electricity; half of that purchased amount will be deducted for the water bill (regadless of how much you bought). It is sad now that the very same issue i ran away from, i have to deal with again in a different form.

I have enquired with fellow tenants and seems everyone is paying crazy amount-I am paying above R3000,00 for water and electricity. Who uses that much water and electricity in a month when there is only two people. I mean even at home we are more tha that but we barely get to a R500 a month. I truly believe ProteaMetering client are paying some elses bill.

Good day Mr  Chweneemang

Each unit hat their own meters for electricity and water, and invoices are processed according to actual readings and according to the promulgated tariffs.  You are surely being billed for what you have actually consumed.  The R 3000 that you are mentioning is not an invoice for 1 month's consumption only - it includes the arrangement installment, deposit increase and penalty fees.  Penalties for an unpaid debit order, Letter of demand and interest fees were charged over recent months.

Your June consumption for electricity, water and sewer amounted to R993,  July's consumption amounted to R1 268 - hardly triple the amount.   One should also not loose sight of the fact that the tariffs for all services have increased recently following the annual tariff increases from Eskom filtering down to all local authorities' tariffs that then increase from 1 July annually.  VAT has also increased recently.
It is noted that your water consumption is rather high - we would advise you to arrange that your unit is checked for possible leaks.

If you would require meter testing to be done, please communicate with the Portfolio Manager for the procedures and costs for these services.

Kind regards

Management
