Protea metering is the WORST!
It's only been 3 days in Kempton Towers and I am regretting making a decision to move here. This is the worst metering system I have ever come across. I haven't even cooked in this place but when I registered I was told I had to settle a R372 debt from the previous tenant then only then can I buy my own. Guess what after paying I tried to login to the website and it's been crashing! Tonight will be day 2 sleeping without electricity. My meat is spoiled I have throw it out. I am so angry. I hate this metering system and I hate this place even more for choosing to put their tenants through this. I can't wait for the lease to end so I can leave this place. Next time before moving into any place I will definitely find out first how do tenants purchase electricity and so forth!!!
Kindly note that the Body Corporate has chosen this specific metering model so that all charges are recouped via one account only, that is much simpler for consumers to manage than having several accounts for all the line items. The account therefore includes the charges for electricity, cold water, hot water, sewer as well as the fixed charge that forms part of Ekurhuleni's promulgated tariff structure.
In order for a Body Corporate to be able to keep the lights on for the entire complex, they have to pay the Council account in full. It is therefore required of the residents to pay for all the mentioned line items.
The invoice that was processed does not include any consumption amounts. We have reversed the fixed charges that are levied at the beginning of each month. Please refer to the account statement for confirmation of the credit for R110.22.
It is not clear how you came to the assumption that you are expected to pay a previous tenant's outstanding amount, because that is simply not true.
