Protea Metering is a money making ****

I stay in Capital Park Heights... Protea metering is one of the very expensive electricity service providers ectually they are reaping us off our hard earned money how can a person spend R1000 in electricity in a month whereas we only two in the flat. It is very unfortunate that I am not the only one who is feeling the electricity bill on a monthly basis and most people are leaving the complex only because of the electricity bill. The company m taking it to Carte Blanche so that they can investigate their business model this *******!

Good day  Mnqophiso

You have received the notice informing residents of the Tshwane Council's promulgated tariffs, and of the increase that came into effect on 01/07/2021 for all services i.e. electricity, water and sewer etc.

The residents of a household are the only ones who have any control over how much is consumed.  Clients are charged for actual consumption per individual unit, according to the actual readings recorded.

The R1 000 per month that it is costing you for 2 people includes the following charges:
  • kWh Electricity consumed
  • Kl Cold water consumed
  • Kl Hot water consumed (that includes the electricity cost for heating the water of the communal hot water system)
  • Sewer charge per kl water consumed

The people leaving will unfortunately pay the same tariffs anywhere in the Tshwane area.

What should be kept in mind is the fact that the units do not have individual geysers - all are using hot water from the centralized hot water systems and it is therefore that you kl hot water consumption is measured separately from the cold water.  This means that residents do not have the option to switch off their geysers like in other complexes where tenants each have their own geysers in the units and can personally manage when and for how long they want to switch on their geysers.  Your complex's residents unfortunately can't do this.  This is how your complex was developed and has nothing to do with the Company that records the readings.

The above hot water system therefore results in lower than normal individual electricity consumption in your unit, but the electricity costs for heating the water is recouped from tenants as per kl of hot water used and measured through the hot water meter.

Please log on to your OAMI profile to monitor and manage your consumption, and if you need further assistance please contact our offices?  You are welcome to communicate with us should you require the meters to be tested for accuracy.

Kind regards
