Protea metering
If it was up to me I wouldn't even give them 1 star. This has got to be the worst company ever, they exploit tenants. Our system used to be water and electricity combined, they split them. The electricity remained prepaid but water get's billed end of the month. I was billed a ridiculous amount of R700. I stay alone and spend about 60% of my time away from my apartment. Their accounts manager Sean will give you multiple reasons as to why your water bill is high. How do we stay in low income housing but get billed that crazy amount monthly. I will not rest until this issue gets resolved

We could not find an account on our system that is registered in your name.
We can however confirm that the Council's promulgated tariffs do not have a special tariff for low-income complexes - everybody pays the same tariff. Also note that the charges are according to how much you are consuming in your unit.
Billing is done according to the instruction of the Body Corporate i.e. they decide to install the water meters and determine if it should be prepaid, conventional or smart meters.
We would however love to check the account. Please provide the account number or the unit address to enable us to do so.
Kind regards,

19 Sept 2024, 13:13I was billed R700 last month, which was August. I enquired and they said it looks like there might be a leakage in my unit cos it shows my water runs non stop. I said I am not aware of any leakage, unless maybe they send someone for maintenance to come and check. They rep**** to my email saying they are sorry for the inconvenience and amended my bill to R137 from R700. I paid the R137 through buying electricity. Whenever I buy electricity they would deduct a certain amount until I was at R0. This month again my bill was around R670. I enquired again. They didn't really have a reason why I was billed that high, instead they requested a physical picture of the water meter. Of which I wasn't even aware we had such in the complex. The care taker assisted in opening up that thing and I was able to take a picture of the meter and send it. They rep**** with the email that my bill was now amended to R420 based on the picture that I sent. I still didn't understand and needed clarity because I'm asking myself if it wasn't for the picture how were they going to bill me because they always do so electronically. They then responded by saying I didn't pay my August water bill, but funny enough they attached a picture to the email that shows that my water bill was cleared through buying electricity. Of which it's not even possible to not pay a water bill because if you owner water, the minute you buy electricity they deduct a certain amount until your bill is cleared. When I responded that it's funny how the email starts off by saying I didn't pay my August bill, but go ahead and attach a picture of my statement showing that I paid it through buying electricity, they responded by saying I shouldn't pay water through electricity and my bill still stands at R420. So my question is who is actually fooling who? The R137 that was deducted when buying electricity, being said it's going to my water, where is it then? That's my biggest question. And when I call, the lady that answered the phone was very rude, throwing tantrums at me and telling me that if the accounts manager says my invoice in okay then it's okay. I didn't even catch her name. I just needed to understand that I stay in a 1 bedroom unit, spend most of my time at work and every month end I'm billed ridiculously. This is truly unacceptable. I need to understand how I reached R420 and why do you say I didn't pay August when I did. All the reasons I've mentioned here that were given to me by you do not make sense at all. Lastly you say I shouldn't pay through buying electricity, why is the option even there?
I'm Keabetswe Thobela at Greenfields estate Mohlakeng, account number ***. I hope I'll get a positive feedback from this because I'm really not happy. This feels like exploitation. It's painful to have to pop up so much money that I don't even have when I don't even understand
