Inadequate system and people

Protea Metering prides itself in creating, hosting and maintaining its own information systems and even have a team of some expert IT specialists on standby 24/7 to make sure everything runs smoothly. Unfortunately there are parts of the systems where we depend on third party suppliers – our Internet connection being one of them. As I’m sure you know, the backbone of modern business, is the Internet, and if that goes down, everything comes to a standstill. We have a dedicated Internet connection with an additional fai***** connection should the one go down. In extremely rare cases both these connections could go down. On 4 October 2018 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the time you tried to purchase, both our connections went down. Because the Internet is provided by a third party, there is nothing we can do about the situation, which is just as frustrating for us, as it is for our clients. We were however in constant communication with the Internet Provider to make sure they prioritize the problem, and they were able to track down and fix the problem of a Fibre cable’s damage within two hours.
We do apologise for the inconvenience caused by the short interruption of services.
As preventative measure we have several warning and communication systems in place – where possible - to alert clients if their electricity on their prepaid/smart meters are running low. We urge clients to make use of these systems and monitor and manage their remaining electricity on their prepaid meters. The best practise is not to wait until your prepaid meter runs out of electricity before you top-up, but to have a “buffer value” for unforeseen circumstances where you might not be able to purchase electricity and end up without units on your meter and without electricity.
