In constant and high bills

I have had bad service with protea metering, my bill started form around R300 to a thousand, when I enquired I was told that the terrifs increased. The bill kept on increasing, we even got used to paying 1.7. As if that was not enough, now during lockdown we got letters saying that they are unable to take reading, they are billing us on estimate. They said that because we are indoors all day it means we are consuming soo much hence we must not be Suprised to get a higher bill, I've been on maternity leave since December and my mate lost his job in January so lockdown did not affect us, the estimate is way to much, my bill for may is 2.8. We called reception and we were told to contact Sebastiaan, of which I sent two emails to him, his so unprofessional, no response at all. They don't care at all about our concerns and busy scheming poor people

Good evening Tiyani

What you might have missed is that your first account in April 2018 was for 18 days only - should not therefore be compared to other months where the bill is for a full month.  The daily average for the first invoice is exactly in line with other months. Your bill includes electricity, water and sewer charges.  It is a fact that all these items' tariffs increase every single year, usually on the 1st of July.  If the consumption patterns stay the same but the tariffs for all items increase every year, one cannot expect the amount charged to stay the same. In April we were not allowed to take actual readings for the electricity.  April electricity was estimated.  Clients were informed accordingly.   The May invoice was processed according to an actual reading.  This reading revealed that the estimation for April was an under recovery, and the actual reading for May was therefore a catch-up reading, reflecting actual consumption.  The figures clearly indicate that there were more people at home for more hours per day than under normal circumstances - there is a definite spike in consumption for the lock down period. We do not have access to any client's financial statements and the promulgated tariffs to not distinguish between consumers based on any kind of criteria.  Since lock down started, both electricity and water consumption for your unit have increased dramatically.  Your statement that lock down does not have an influence is therefore incorrect. Kindly note that the mere recording of readings does not enable us to have any influence on the number of units consumed - this is controlled only by the residents of a household.  We also do not determine the tariffs but are bound to process invoices according to the promulgated Tshwane tariffs that were approved by NERSA. We hope that the email and spread sheet that was provided will help clarify any uncer*****ies, but should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to communicate with us? Warm regards
