I feel ********** by protea metering for my electricity and water bills!
The past few weeks I’ve had Protea metering charge me 4times more than what I was buying for in over a year of me staying in fourways. I used to buy electricity for R300 and it would last me just over 3 weeks and the past few weeks I’m buying electricity for over 2 thousand rand. I contacted them asking why the sudden change and why is my electricity and water bill so high, they said it’s because I use more water and electricity in winter, which is untrue! Since last year January I’ve been using my geyser, kettle, microwave, fridge, a TV and 4 cell phones. I haven’t added new appliances and I HAVE NEVER HAD an electric heater, electric blankets, a washing machine, a dishwasher or anything that uses up too much electricity. Secondly we are hardly home in the day, with no helper to blame the heavy water and electricity use on. How is a house hold of 4 with only the appliances mentioned above using so much water (showering only in the morning and at night and our washing is done at the dry cleaners) and electricity. I feel ********** and I need a logical explanation from protea which they have failed to provide.
Kindly note that you have a prepaid electricity meter, and how you use the electricity that you load on the meter is completely up to the residents of your household - we can have absolutely no control over that.
It is also not clear how you can claim to have used over R2 000 in the past few weeks if you have purchased for R 900 since the beginning of the month. This includes the latest purchase that you have made for R300 on Saturday.
A short summary of your expenditure thus far this year is as follows:
Jan 2022 - PP electricity bought = R1 300 - 524 kwh - Water 11 kl - R172.23 Total amount spent for the month = R1 427.33
Feb 2022 - PP electricity bought = R1 000 - 397 kwh - Water 8 kl - R101.58 Total amount spent for the month = R1 101.58
March 2022 - PP electricity bought = R800 - 318 kwh - Water 13 kl - R235.94 Total amount spent for the month = R1 035.94
April 2022 - PP electricity bought = R1400 - 505 kwh - Water 13 kl - R220.92 Total amount spent for the month = R1 620.92
May 2022 - PP electricity bought = R1300 - 474 kwh - Water 11 kl - R177.23 Total amount spent for the month = R1 477.23
Jun 2022 - PP electricity bought = R900 - 328 kwh thus far for the month
It is indeed a fact that more electricity is consumed in the winter months, mainly as a result of the geyser that drops to much lower temperatures than in summer and having to work much harder to maintain the selected temperature. The geyser makes up about 75% of the electricity consumed in a normal household.
The figures above seems perfectly normal for a household of 4 people.
